Mentions animal cruelty

This Week in #Neuroscience: TWiN 60: You get the gist of it?

Episode webpage: microbe.tv/twin/twin-60/

Media file: traffic.libsyn.com/secure/twin…

Note. The hosts don't even acknowledge the animal cruelty aspects of the research they discus. E.g., couldn't memory be tested on mice in a more humane way?

@falcennial

OK. Sometimes, & arguably, the ends may justify the means. But, sometimes there is a culture of neglect that means animal cruelty is the norm. That's also true regarding the animal meat, dairy & egg industry.

"Stephen Miller Is an Immigration Hypocrite. I Know Because I’m His Uncle."

I just read this article from 2018, thinking it was new. Sadly, it's even more timely now in 2025.

A US bishop appt by Pope Leo XIV has instructed a group of priests & deacons in his district to💙accompany migrants to court.

Appt as Bishop of San Diego, Rev Pham is asking the grp to go to court on Fri, June 20th, which is INTL Refugee Day.

"We know: migrants & refugees find themselves in the difficult predicament of being called to appear, which is what the govt asks of them, & then being given orders for expedited removal from our co-."

It's great to finally see these appointed religious figures speak out against these atrocities. It makes you wonder though “what took them so long??” Or should I ask “why the previous popes, and bishops stayed quiet…?” Maybe because the pope is from the US, and that's where all this sh*t is brewing? Who knows…

For those who would like to read the full essay, which is very good:

"This is not just a matter of proper procedure. Without a unified command structure, clear rules of engagement and accountability mechanisms, introducing military personnel into a volatile environment introduces more risk than reassurance. Who’s in charge? What are the rules? What happens when missions conflict or orders diverge? These are not questions to be figured out after boots hit the ground."

Look, you can't expect the President of the United States to speak for the government. Also he's a unitary executive who can dictate all government operations at his whim.www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

It sounds so cool! I can see in my head the kind of scene you might find this playing in in a video game

Elon's Twitter breaks your brain.

And if it didn't break your brain, the right and their appeasers in "the middle" wouldn't be screaming about how bad Bluesky is.

It's time for everyone, especially reporters, to stop having their "news" fed to them by Elon's algorithm.

in reply to lolgop

Correct the narrative.

What's changed is Elon turning Twitter into a Machine for Fascism.

Democrats won in 2020 because Twitter helped the party listen to the base. They lost in 2024 because they thought Elon's Twitter was reality and decided they try to appeal to the right on the right's terms.
emptywheel.net/2024/11/01/elon…

in reply to lolgop

Reporters need to stop feeding at Elon's trough: it allows them to ignore what people think in favor of chewing on MAGA's cud.

What the polls say:

*Americans split about protesters, but oppose Trump's response more

*Trump's approval ratings on immigration and deportations slide into the negative

in reply to lolgop

"some or all" is a "vast" majority, even though i hate the phrase.

Did everyone think you thanos snap and all the illegals are deported? You ask all the people here illegally to line up at the nearest ICE center for deportation?

83% of the US believes that at least "some" of the people here "illegally" here should be deported.

I propose, instead of posting about polls, someone sticks a mic in front of their faces and asks "so how do you propose to eject the illegals?"

I have to admit I'm surprised to learn that apparently Victoria's actual Secret is... a skilled infosec response team?

I'm genuinely curious in how they run their shop, and this incident, that let them respond to this much more quickly and effectively than many other and seemingly more critical-role organizations.

Apple love to preach "the UI gets out of the way of your content" with each new redesign, but how true is that in practice? Let's compare the total height of the Safari UI with a toolbar, favourites bar and tab bar visible, across the three latest Mac OS design languages – Yosemite, Big Sur and now Tahoe. I've added a red line for emphasis.

It sure looks to me like the UI is eating more into my content with each redesign.
