In this week's #Linux & #OpenSource News video, there's an X.org fork surrounded by some pretty weird controversies, we have Denmark beginning the switch to Linux and Open Source, and Google making changes to Android source code's release that will definitely make custom ROMs a lot harder to build:

in reply to Nick @ The Linux Experiment

The topic was « why are people so unwilling to know what beliefs or acts someone holds or performed, when we’re talking about code ».

My answer was : we need to know about these beliefs or acts, so we can make a decision.

I never said I get to decide what’s acceptable. Any individual or project makes that decision for themselves, and that’s why they need to know what the person creating something thinks or does 😀

however we both know that in practice, blacklists (of individuals, as well as belief systems) are shared in the hivemind of shrill voices who worm their way into mod privileges. We also know that facts are immaterial when it comes to that kind of mob justice.

You are, for all intents and purposes, arguing to give veto power over foss infra to those kinds of political activists who say the right words, in the right way, to the right ears.

Given the history of your continent, I find that idea excessively repelling.

in reply to Benny Powers 🇮🇱🦁

No, again. YOU infer that this is what I want. It’s not.
You make a semi-logical jump I never made, along the lines of « oh but this COULD lead to X or Y ».

It’s a conjecture at best, and not at all what I’m saying or “arguing for”.

I spoke to a number of high level operators at devconf cz about this topic. I will not share their names. It seems clear to them that these kinds of ideological purity tests are a danger to the free software community. But who is willing to speak in public about these things for risk of the reputational damage that they'll incur by being called dirty names by political activists?
in reply to Benny Powers 🇮🇱🦁

@bp No one is talking about purity tests. Again, you’re blowing my words way out of what they cover.

I’m talking about informing. What projects, people and communities do with that is up to them. If the will of a projects governance is to block certain people, they’ll do so, and users will then use that information to take their own decisions. The very definition of the “free market” some people seem to advocate for.

in reply to Benny Powers 🇮🇱🦁

@bp @dflxh As per the “shrill voices” and “worming their way” turns of phrases, I find them extremely dismissive and repellent.

Lumping everyone you disagree with as a manipulative type of person who cheated their way into a project is disturbing way of thinking, and of very bad faith and taste. It’s also kind of what you’re accusing these people of doing, which is hypocritical.

in reply to Nick @ The Linux Experiment

hey it's all good, as long as you continue to parrot The Approved Message, you don't have anything to worry about
in reply to Benny Powers 🇮🇱🦁

@bp @dflxh Sure, cause no one would ever really believe that equality and inclusivity is a good thing. That respecting others is intelligent. We’re all just faking it to avoid being crucified publicly by a minority of people who somehow managed to impose themselves onto the silent 99% of the population.

Surely that’s the most logical explanation 😂

When one just can’t accept reality and is so entrenched in their delusions, the only thing to do is to say “have a nice day”. So Have a Nice Day ;)

Shout out to @DJUpNorth for giving me the wisdom to just pause a moment.

Yesterday started out amazing. Doing things for other people "as best I can" will be the legacy. The music is just extra. Then the day went straight to crap. On every level. Physically, Mentally and lets top it off with a bit of emotional jarring crap on the news.

I will discuss all this in detail through my show tonight.

But for now, I'd like to offer an apology for not being able to rock last night.

Self care is important. Take care of yourself.
Also very cool of @DJUpNorth to step up and help out. Big love to both of you! 🫶

🇲🇩⚠️ Sandu reported on Russia’s attempts to destabilize the situation in Transnistria before the elections in Moldova.

“All these years, Russia has been using the residents of Transnistria and at any moment can provoke an even greater crisis if this suits its plans in Moldova. We can expect this crisis to deepen in the coming months, before the elections,” she said.

She added that Russia may try not only to bribe voters in unrecognized Transnistria, but also to blackmail the population.

☢️🇮🇷🇮🇱 Much of Iran's Nuclear Program Was Not Damaged by Israeli Attacks, - NYT

The reporters noted that the missile strikes caused more damage to above-ground nuclear fuel production facilities, while underground ones remained largely unscathed.

Iran was preparing for an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities if nuclear talks failed, but was surprised that the attack occurred before the round of talks on Sunday.

It's ok, the external borders of the EU compensate ten-fold for it.
How about we stop killing the ones trying to get to this "border-free" land of ours?
