About a dozen Proud Boys are at the Atlanta, GA #NoKings rally - not undercover, but there to intimidate a much larger anti-Trump protest.

At #nokings in Hemet, CA. Perhaps 200-300 here so far, with people still arriving. A few MAGAs trying to disrupt things, but unsuccessfully!

At Hemet CA #nokings, probably up to 600-800 protesters now, MAGA disrupters seem to have given up and left! Photo only shows a small part of the protest.

"Turn Me Loose" is a hit song recorded by Canadian rock band #Loverboy. It was released on their eponymous debut album in 1980, and as a single in 1981. With a strong rock #synthesizer start to the song, followed by a steady build on the guitars, it peaked at #7 on the #RPM singles chart in 1981 and #6 on the #Billboard #TopRockTracks chart in the US. #RecordWorld attributed the song's success to "#MikeReno's vocal plea, a guitar grind, and marvelous production."

It is #NoKings day. Come out! Even just stepping outside your house and standing there next to other people who are unhappy will help. It's a show of numbers. Signs are nice to have, not need to have. Show up!

Yes. I"m going to swing by on my way to the Saturday service. No, I don't have a sign.

@geonz I'm getting ready to head out, myself. IDK if there's anything happening in my little town, and I don't have a vehicle, but I will walk there and stand by myself if I have to.

#NoKings

in reply to Aaron

I hopped on my bicycle and oh, car culture!!! it was already 10 after 4:00, the strting time, and ... there's a whole mall parking lot, full, annex parking, full; people were parked at the school half a mile away and walking in. I see our population is 235,000 --> but it's probably about half that in the summer when the U. is in summer session and that probly includes folks outside.
I didn't check out the western part at all so ... I have no idea... but we had tons tons tons more people than the Usual Activists.
there were many speakers; several pro-Palestine that got good responses, our local progressive rep, a guy who got naturalized *yesterday* and had never spoken publicly before... and just TONS of Regular People. So many cars honked support (I suspect some just decided they'd be a supportive parade since they would have had to WALK SO FAR to get there, car culture!!!)... I hope the Trumpists at least felt ... uncomfortable.

I brought a first aid kit instead of a sign. Fortunately, it wasn’t needed.

I liked the forum better it's too bad it did not take off. Feels like nobody has the patience for slower more thoughtful conversations. Maybe there just isn't a need I mean things are going quite well with everyone training themselves for millisecond attention spans and voicing their opinions only with 👍

I know. I have the biggest crush on Reeves. I can see how even Groff would. That man is a knockout punch in every way! Go Groff! I don't care how big a star someone else is, to say you got to get THAT close, and to actually have him let you touch his face ... (sigh) Wow.

John Pearce has announced that he will be retiring from Utah's supreme court.

Pearce authored last year's ruling that blocked the state's abortion ban from going into effect, and he also joined an opinion that safeguarded ballot initiatives last summer. sltrib.com/news/politics/2025/…

in reply to BoltsMag.org

The governor will now get to nominate Pearce's replacement, though Utah has a complicated process that you can read about in our guide to all state supreme courts. boltsmag.org/whats-on-the-ball…

It was an assassination. Theyll trot out the usual lone nut motive and the suspect will wind up dead like every other patsy throughout history.
This was a message to organized opposition : You're not safe.

@mike Make sure to point out that, even if all that is true (and it's likely not), it was still assassination and politically motivated at that.

Due to a shelter-in-place order and ongoing safety concerns following a shooting that targeted two elected officials, the No Kings protest in Northeast Minneapolis has been canceled.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the communities impacted by this horrifying violence. fox9.com/news/melissa-hortman-…

in reply to Indivisible ❌👑

Governor Walz has recommended that we cancel No Kings events across Minnesota because the individual who assassinated a Democratic lawmaker is still at large. For the safety of all involved, we are cancelling events across the state that are not already underway.

@cy I don’t doubt there’s a massive element of fuck-the-plebs-and-keep-them-in-their-place to this, among the more self-aware cohort of sociopaths. Equally, I think there’s a less aware bloc there who would reject evidence-based contradiction of their assumptions purely because they just don’t believe they can be wrong about anything to do with organisational management, having failed upwards as far as they have
@cy
in reply to Mark Lynch

OK yeah that's fair. Still their upwards motion is intentional because of how they conveniently fail, even if they're not the ones doing the intending. There will always be some that do it just because everyone else is.

The shooting in Minnesota has so many disturbing elements. First and foremost it's a targeted political assassination that gives republicans the balance of power in a state legislature. Second it was brazen and cold blooded meant exactly to send a message. That message being if you're in a position of power and in opposition to the right you could be assassinated.

G. Gibson reshared this.

A political assassination by a homegrown, rightwing terrorist.

Not immigrants.

Prove me wrong.

I'm willing to bet the murderer is homegrown and not an immigrant.

You realize that birthday boy will be to busy with his boner-educing military parade today, to make a statement about how sad and angry he is at this act of violence.

in reply to The Whore of Blahbylon

@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon, love this statement ❤️‍🔥 maybe I will borrow it for the next demo here in Germany. The Bundeskanzlerin friedRich (some think of him as Bundeskanzler, but after 16 years of Angela Merkel there can only be a Bundeskanzlerin 😉) and his right wing party (and the extreme right wing party) seem to think, too, that NGOs and people, fighting for democracy, and especially the “Antifa” are being paid.

⚠️ A reminder that like all social networks Mastodon is not end-to-end encrypted. It is not designed or intended as a way to send sensitive information.

If you need to send private messages with sensitive content, use a secure messenger with end-to-end encryption both present and activated.

Some options are XMPP with OMEMO (joinjabber.org), @delta & @briar

Another is Signal, but Signal is centralised which makes it more vulnerable to enshittification or selling itself to Meta etc.

You can also turn on "delete after X amount of time" on Signal which can mitigate enshittification... I mean, yes, doing FOSS-distributed e2ee is *best*, but as St. Linus once said, never let perfect get in the way of good enough.
in reply to StoneBear

@stonebear2

Enshittification doesn't happen in the growth phase. In the growth phase everything is great and users are treated like royalty.

But when a network becomes so dominant that people feel forced to use it (such as Whatsapp) then the enshittification can start, because people can't escape any more.

The more people that congregate on a centralised service, the closer you are bringing that service to enshittification, and the more people will be trapped on it.

in reply to Fedi.Tips

@voxel maybe you're right, the Wikipedia article on the Signal Foundation says Acton is chairman of the foundation since 2018 and interim CEO of the Signal company since 2022.

I don't use #FedEx due to it being a fascist government supporter but sometimes I have no choice but get stuff delivered from where the seller ships through them.

After previous attempts to get #ADA delivery instructions applies, and ignored, we have permanent ADA instructions on our address with FedEx that our attorney negotiated with them.

We just got another delivery from FedEx, the first one in a while, and they didn't respect the ADA negotiated pre-lawsuit settlement.

Time to contact the attorney.

in reply to Paul Chambers🚧

I didn’t know they supported fascism. I already dislike them because their service is TERRIBLE. Now I have another reason to avoid them.
in reply to Jenny

They and their founders, have supported Trump from the start. A FedEx board member and executive is succeeding DeJoy at the USPS.

They are bitching a little now over tariffs but because it is hurting their bottom line.
