I checked out the new SF bay area MicroCenter and discovered you can still buy a boxed copy of WordPerfect.

Sometimes it's reassuring to see something that hasn't changed in 46 years of computing history.

@12thRITS this makes me wonder exactly where the UI convention of having F1 call up the help files came from.... and why WordPerfect didn't go that same direction

Maybe WP's F3 shortcut predated the establishment of F1 as a common standard?

in reply to vxo

@vxo @12thRITS apparently lotus 1-2-3 did it in '83, and wordperfect started in '79

I haven't been paying attention. Is Trump's penis-length-replacement-parade happening today? @GottaLaff
in reply to Laffy

The troops are just… shambling down the street. They clearly don’t want to be there. This is not what one expects from a military parade.

Ok folks, let's pump the brakes just a hair on the whole, "This is literally why the Founding Fathers fought," stuff. The American Revolution was largely economic. Please read better history. #subtoot
in reply to Trivial Einstein

The founding fathers started the war mostly because their land speculation businesses relied on 1) was with natives 2) and not having to pay taxes to the king to do that.

Then they conned some actual patriots into dying for this.

in reply to Nagaram

@Nagaram
Yeah, I don't understand why people don't see how, "No taxation without representation," is an economic policy, not a cry for liberty. I'm not saying that none of the Founding Fathers (a term I use for want of better, not because of any particular reverence) had motives other than economic, but if Parliament had backed off on the various economic things which were driving the revolution, it never would have happened and we'd probably be like Canada now, unless we later rebelled to keep slavery. That's my read, anyway.

So many great #nokings signs! Here’s one that particularly tickled me:

May God move in his heart so powerfully that it fucking explodes in his chest in a massive infarc..

Props to everyone protesting today. Thank you!

I'm at a girls #lacrosse tournament in hot, humid, smoky MD.

#Protest in #FortWorth #dfw today, #NoKings. According to organizers the #FBI closed airspace around the event, which might explain why the helicopter was hanging pretty far back. There *was* a quadcopter hanging out closer to the event though. Probably had about a thousand people milling around, give or take a couple hundred.

Saw reps from #CPUSA, #RCA, and #PSL #PartyForSocialismAndLiberation too, as well as #AFLCIO. #socialism #communism #marxism.

About 150+ people in #NewGlarus #NoKings. Pretty good for small town #Wisconsin. A lot of retired folks!

I'm loving all the photos of clever protest signs and crowd sizes, but PLEASE don't show protestor faces in your photos. Law "enforcement" can and do use photos found online to identify protestors.

I just got back from the protest in Newtown. Seemed really well attended for a relatively small town... definitely several hundred people, maybe up to 1,000? Kind of hard to estimate, but the main area felt very full.

The crowd was energetic but not unruly. The cops had to step in a few times to help traffic through the intersection, but I didn't see them doing anything beyond that. Drivers passing through were overwhelmingly supportive. Lots of honking horns and fists being pumped out of windows and sunroofs.

I decided to leave my phone at home. We're leaving the country soon for vacation, and I didn't want to invite any extra scrutiny at the border. Probably would have been just fine, but you never know!

My daughter really wanted to go with me, but she just couldn't accept leaving home without her phone. Maybe next time.

went to join local No Kings protest but left quickly, overwhelmed, so picked up my elderly mother to ride shotgun in my car and we drove past the protest honking and cheering the protesters on 🩷🚙👏🩷👏

I was anxious about what the local #NoKings turnout would be today (red county in a red state). It was way bigger than I hoped. It's odd for an introvert to feel charged up by a crowd of people. So many drivers were clearly delighted to see us too. I hope many others had as nice of an experience.
