Not all protests are for the same purpose, and that's actually a good thing.
Some folks I think are too caught up in an identity as “a protester” or “an activist” and so we (which I say bc I also fight against this tendency in myself” see a goofy-ass protest and struggle to reconcile what we are seeing with what we want to imagine ourselves being a protagonist in.
It doesn’t have to be like this — it’s totally ok to either not go to the goody thing and instead participate in a complimentary other rebellious activity, and also ok to go to the goofy thing just like many of us also regularly go to goofy-ass fuck shit like sporting events, 4th of July parades and pop concerts

Pakistan is just like Iran when it comes to talking big, without being much of a threat. They are stuck facing up against India. They are powerless to do anything. And if they did, they would be humiliated, just as Iran.
There are people who like to go on a lot about how terribly busy they always are, and people who just quietly get on with things without making a fuss. Despite appearances, I'm actually the latter. But I do often wonder if it's the people who fall into the former category who go further in life. The perception that they're heroically overcoming their exhausting schedules to complete a task. Reminding anyone in earshot that they got up early or did a thing. I'm not saying that people who do this are *bad* - we all have different lived experiences - but a couple of my closest friends do this and make jokes about how I'm never busy because I just don't really see the value in complaining about it. It's a zero sum game - like couples who live together constantly trying to find chore-equilibrium.
These are great insights into this dichotomy, Ben. I've experienced close people in both camps. For the former, I appreciate them raising visibility into the things (heck, it might jog someone into doing something similar). And for the latter, quiet and steady really resonates with me.
