You are not delusional for seeing the rot.
You are clear-eyed.
Youāre seeing exactly whatās there.
A system that extracts labor, flattens difference, rewards cruelty, punishes vulnerability, and calls it order.
A system that warps people into resources, children into data points, relationships into transactions, and survival into something earned.
It wants you to believe youāre the problem for not fitting.
Youāre not paranoid.
Youāre perceptive.
Youāre not bitter.
Youāre awake.
Capitalism doesnāt improve society, it deforms it.
It doesn't educate. It perverts curiosity into obedience.
You are trying to stay human in a place that keeps rewarding inhumanity.
And yes, itās hard, brutally so, to see the poison and still have to move through it every day,
But what youāre actually doing is not consenting to a dehumanizing framework. That's resistance.
Neat little man-made cave area in the gardens. A fab place to cool off from the hot sun. It's tucked in behind the waterfall.

in reply to Phil Thane ā • • •The US tax system is utterly godawful. And it is KEPT godawful to create a captive market for tax accountants and tax-prep-software firms like Intuit and H.R.Block, because the tax code and the associated forms are intentionally so Byzantine that the typical individual taxpayer almost cannot correctly file their own taxes. Intuit and its business rivals/allies spend billions a year lobbying Congress to keep it this way.
And this is even aside from the corruption. There are obscure exceptions buried in the tax code that, if you can find them and study them, are written to SPECIFICALLY exempt the purchase of A SINGLE SPECIFIC YACHT from sales tax.
Phil Thane ā
in reply to Sean Fenian • • •Land of the free eh? I was self employed for 10 years and prior to that did freelance work alongside a regular job. So unlike most in the UK I had to do a tax return. It wasn't a problem though. Fill some online forms, attach a PDF Profit/Loss report from my free accounts software (GNU Cash) and wait for the bill. I'm retired now so no tax returns to do but I have heard that from this year the free online option is no more and taxpayers have to use an approved app.
@RickiTarr
Sean Fenian
in reply to Phil Thane ā • • •Yeah, there has been a limited Federal free online tax filing option in the US for some years. Republicans and tax-prep companies fought tooth and nail to limit public knowledge of it and keep it as restricted as possible, and one of Trump's early actions was to order it killed.
"Land of the Free" is a bad joke. It's pure self-delusion. It's not the land of the free, it's the land of "Fuck you, Jack, I've got mine" and "Devil take the hindmost." The land of "How much freedom can you AFFORD?" The land of giving people as little as possible in return for their taxes and selling that to them as freedom.
rhetorical answers
in reply to Phil Thane ā • • •Taxes in the US are structured and complexified in a way to immiserate and endanger regular citizens.
The IRS knows everything already but they make people try to figure out the tax code on their own and fill out esoteric forms - and if they make a mistake *boom!* Punishment.
This contributes to the ongoing "taxes are theft" framing of la-la libertarianism and makes people feel that this is what the parasite class is talking about when they propagandize for "tax cuts".
@pthane @RickiTarr
Derek Dahlsad
in reply to Phil Thane ā • • •The big thing about the US tax system is that a copy of your income and paid tax records go to the government, a copy of your income and paid tax records go to you, and you don't get to see what the government knows. If you don't file exactly the same information that the government knows, you get into trouble because what you say you owe in taxes is different from what the government thinks you owe in taxes. Also, there's so many loopholes and things to do just the right way that you can *think* part of your income isn't taxable, but it only becomes such if you fill out the right form or check the right box. It's all so software companies can sell you their guaranteed accurate filing software. No, really: propublica.org/article/inside-ā¦
