There's not enough paint in the world to paint all the dicks it would take to make NE Going street (my neighborhood East/West bike boulevard) a smooth ride. Every type of pavement imaginable was used in different stretches of it and it's all thrashed. It would be one long giant dick only visible from the air.

A look at Catherine Hanley's book on the Empress Matilda, who very very nearly became England's first sovereign Queen. Could she have done it ? Yes, probably. Would it have made much difference to history ? Sadly no, probably not. There's also an extensive look at medieval attitudes to gender which is interestingly nuanced : sometimes, it was every bit as discriminatory as you'd expect, but not always. Even among the head-lopping Norman magnates there were plenty of supporters who would have been fine with having a woman on the throne... though there were also many who simply couldn't stomach the idea.
