More evidence of what a slow surge we're seeing in the US. The CDC uses data from emergency department visits to estimate the time-varying reproductive number, Rt. Although it estimates that #COVID19 infections are growing or likely growing in 26 states and not changing in 19 states, it is the Rt estimate that is interesting. In five weeks, the reproductive estimate hasn't changed. COVID is growing, but it isn't accelerating as we typically see in a surge.

Hummingbirds typically refuse to share the feeder I put up for them, and often one will station itself on a plant nearby just so it can chase away any other bird that wants some of that sugar water.
Right now though I'm watching two of them share the feeder, except one of them wants to use the feeding station right next to the other one. The other one doesn't want it to use that one. So the first bird is sitting two stations away and feeding, but taking breaks between sips to creep slowly closer to the second bird. When the first bird gets close enough, the second bird gets upset and chases it back to the feeding station further away.
I don't know why they even have a preference. As far as I can tell the six feeding stations on the feeder are exactly the same.
we had a similar problem with hummingbirds - we had two feeders and one asshole hummingbird that would try to guard both of them
Like, my dudes... sugar is cheap and we'll keep refilling them. Chill.
