Ugh so many sole proprietors/small businesses are only on instagram. Annoying.

Skies descend, dark mirroring.
Smell the woodsmoke, intoxicating, soft and sweet;
masks the taste of bitter bile, secret vomiting,
starving despite harvest’s gay array of treats.
Faded, nearly blind, falling in and out of
shamanic fever, primeval native callings beyond sight,
ripple of tribal beat, at the periphery
ecstatic vision dark/light/agony and brilliant breaks,
starbright constellations.

Early autumn firelight,
reminiscent of witch hunts, ghosts of cavalry,
dire warnings and endless hide and strike.
The game, the funhouse, turns deadly.
Sanctuary calls, demanding sacrifice.
The noble phoenix fed on frankenseed
can not rise.

EV might be better for now but never forget the total footprint of the EV. Precious minerals and metals, the electricity to charge, recycling after the car is “done”, etc. And what about the fact that there will be a huge powershortages or even outages when everyone comes home and plugs in their car?

Best step I think is to go hybrid with smaller engines (like the European cars are doing currently) and not the big engines like they have in the US.

@valichikismet

Absolutely! Walk/bike/bus/train all have to happen before switching to EVs... and those can ideally start as electric bikes, electric two-wheelers, small cars, etc.

Spotted a slightly older model kit on AliExpress yesterday at an ok discount, put off buying it to try and squeeze a few more coupons and now it's not on discount anymore.

Fediverse night right now going on at @foulab in Montreal. So far, I learned about sproutdistro.com/catalog/zines… and github.com/hometown-fork/homet… and @gancio - all Fediverse related projects, each interesting on their own.

As Trump’s trade war rages on into Fall, China still won’t buy American soybeans (assuming farms can even find labor to bring in their crops). But here’s the thing: Farmers aren’t working class. They’re often quite rich, actually.

And they knew exactly what they were voting for. trib.al/k4wq53a

The Trump administration's solution is to give its “tariff money” to U.S. farmers, though the exact figure could vary by billions of dollars, according to the president. newrepublic.com/post/200946/do…

Europe's Cookie Law Messed Up the Internet. Brussels Wants To Fix It. tech.slashdot.org/story/25/09/…

LOL ordered the Geiger counter kit (not that I have any radioactive shrimp, but looked like a fun project). It'll probably give me health anxiety from all the radioactive stuff I likely have around here, ha ha ha. (smoke detectors, granite countertops, some tile glazes, certain other kinds of rocks, vacuum tubes, camping lanterns, microwave oven, drinking water, bananas, fish, beer, peanut butter, potatoes 🤪 ....) #geeky
in reply to AI6YR Ben

yeah, it can definitely make you paranoid. I’ve had a Geiger counter since the 2011 quake (I get a lot of food from my relatives in Japan). I “accidentally” found a significant amount radioactivity coming from random buildings around town, and occasional higher counts outside when the wind is coming from the direction of the Labs (Livermore). There are elevated counts in the house air filter too, but nothing dangerous..yet

I made another TikTok video.

All opinions about autism can be true at the same time. We need to bring love and respect back to the discussion about autism.

I tried to put all of what I said in the alt text but the whole video is over the character limit. I tried.

The one thing I miss about Twitter is, I could find and interact with autistic people with high-support needs, and learn their views on the matter. People who are nonverbal and/or incapable of self-care. I was surprised to learn that the neurodiversity movement was often *stronger* among this group. They didn't want a cure; they wanted acceptance and support.

Most of the fellow autistic people I've met who *did* want a cure came from the low support needs group. We are more likely to be socialized to see our disability as a character flaw or moral failure, something we are held responsible for and expected to "fix". We internalize the ableism that is openly imposed on us, Stockholm syndrome style, because our acceptance is conditioned on conformity. For someone who doesn't have that option, they aren't as likely to be manipulated into siding with their oppressors, I think.

#ActuallyAutistic

in reply to Aaron

That said... I do think every autistic person -- and every disabled person in general -- has the right to decide for themselves whether to see their condition has a hindrance they want removed, or a part of their personhood. We all deserve that level of agency over our own lives.
in reply to Aaron

I, for one, will never bow my head to the neurotypical hegemony. I have a right to be who I am, and I will stand proudly with that decision.
in reply to Aaron

@hosford42 I saw recently a survey for autistic people and among the options there were many (don’t remember the %) answers identifying themselves as high need.

I think there are several sub groups of us that don’t interact with each other probably to time zones and/or different # and it’s a real shame.

@AutisticInnovator I love your above post so much. I wish deeply that non autists, including health professionals, stopped using profound or severe autism but rather autism and ID. And even like that it’s still so restrictive...

Anyway I saw again an article recently “a non verbal autistic wrote a symphony!“ People were shocked! 🤦🏻‍♀️

👆🏼👏🏼👌🏼 This. 1000%. Internalised ableism is a huge problem. Internalised oppression not only harms ourselves but weaponises us to harm other autistics and all other marginalised groups too.

Jimmy Kimmel soared in the ratings Tuesday with 6.2 million viewers, according to early figures from Nielsen that do not yet include streaming.

That’s nearly four times bigger than his usual audience, even though Sinclair and Nexstar (who own more than 20 percent of ABC affiliates) boycotted the show. The monologue also has 15 million YouTube views.
