It's probably not a good sign that my Pixel 6 Pro just went black and the phone suddenly became almost too hot to touch.
It's in a time-out in a LiPo bag in the freezer.
I'm hoping I don't need to get a new phone ASAP. This phone was doing great up until ten minutes ago.

Oh wow, Is that device-specific or something in only the absolute latest versions? Because it has been driving me crazy that my phone can't do it.
However, for the record, lowering the charge max won't prevent thermal runaway on its own. It's charge speed that is the real danger in charging or, probably more commonly, discharge rate (running too much crap at once on a giant too bright screen. An issue Samsung in particular pushes dangerously close to and once straight up had it actually happen in a model.) See if you can set slow charging.
BTW, you should set it to 80% or less, not 85. Well, it's difficult to know by percentage, but if you charge limit, the true purpose is to make the battery last longer and that's probably closer to optimal voltage.
