in reply to William Lindsey • • •I've been bothered by the fact that that speech - as his others - is now entered into the historical record for future historians, students, researchers, and LLM engineers to scrape and re-use. What an embarrassment!
At the same time, I'm more bothered that 'the record' may contain only what his speech writers put on paper, and not his verbal meanderings, gaffes, and mis-locutions. Future historians really ought to have to look at and use the words we heard as he spoke them, not any sanitized or corrected versions.
This is all assuming that enough humans survive for there to be historians in the future.
(It's dark and rainy where I'm sitting at the moment.)
