What an amazing family history! I am so glad that you survived. And on a clear day, out of the blue? Uncanny and scary.

J's family seems to have a lot of extra electricity in their bodies. They all kill watches. They have to wear a thick band to protect the watch. She's the only one in her family to have been hit by lightning. They all have heart problems, though. Her dad had five heart attacks.

That is totally crazy. I mean your story alone but to have 2 relatives also get struck by lightning?

Here in California lightning has not been a big part of my life and I never heard of anyone getting struck (I mean locally, not nationwide). That is not to say we don't have lightning but it is not usually memorable or lasting. But it seems to be changing. We had a crazy lightning event last night that was so loud I was sure we were in trouble. My dog who can handle fireworks had a total panic attack. I have some very tall trees that suffered from lack of water and I was worried about them. I am unaware of any lightning rods near me. What is weird is 3 weeks ago approximately we had a lightning event that started a bunch of fires.

I am not sure if these are normal but fresh in my mind or an actual change.

I was side struck off my house. I was very lucky because it didnt ground out thru my feet . It was more from my extended arm through my shoulder.

Amazing about how many times you and people around you have been struck. In some beliefs it is a sign that you align with the power of the clouds.

Our dad got struck by lightning in his left upper arm while he was in the US Army (when there was a draft). He was 'on maneuver' and was sleeping under a tree. The tree got hit and it jumped to him.

30-odd years later he was diagnosed with a rare, fast-growing cancer in that arm. It took 10 months to kill him.

We still miss our dad.

Curious if you (or others) feel your personality has changed at all since the strike? I've heard that other recipients of the 'ultimate static discharge' have reported such an effect.

I once was hit with 15,000 volts while checking a Hipotronics destructive cable tester that the technician on the previous shift was unable to fix. It was a loud explosion and my vision slowly returned after a few minutes. I was lucky, when I could start to see, I was looking across my arms for burn marks and didn't see any. My arms and chest were very sore and dripping with sweat like I did a two hour workout.

That event started when I unplugged the unit and took off the side cover. That's when the flash explosion happened. Turns out the previous technician had wrapped the wiring harness around the gravity operated interlock switch that was supposed to discharge the 8uF capacitor. I measured 7 kilovolts left on that capacitor with my Fluke high voltage probe. Easy fix and so I continued my shift and had a usual good night...
