I created this piece of artwork around the Mercury cazimi in Virgo on September 13th. Mercury and the Sun were conjoining the Lunar South Node and the TNO Orcus, named for an Etruscan underworld god. The cazimi was also square the asteroid Hanuman - hence, the gorilla-like appearance of the Orcus statue with a geode in his mouth behind the figure of Sister Thea Bowman, one of six Black Americans who have been put up for canonization. I put her in the colours most commonly associated with the Virgin Mary to reflect the purifying light of the Mercury cazimi in Virgo helping us to go deep to see into our shadow and face our fears. Her lantern holds the sigil to "Illuminate," while the eyes of Orcus show sigils to "Hold To Your Oaths" and "Let Go of the Punitive."

Food thought:

Peach cobbler. It's to me an odd situation. I kinda like the overall flavor usually, but the texture of the peach & how un-peachy the overall dish tastes is a turnoff?

Like... I love apple pie because even after the sugar & the cooking the resulting fruit is still like "MOTHAFUCKER YOU EATING APPLES!"

Peach cobbler in contrast seems to... dull the peaches? They feel rubbery & unnatural to me?

The best peach flavor in a dish I ever had was when someone on sample day at a grocery store was topping avocado toast with straight-up slices of fresh crisp peach.

Is there a way to make peach cobbler that preserves more of the essence of PEACH?

The thing I know about fruit baking is that a lot of people / bakeries put an egregious amount of corn starch in with the fruit, which gives it a dull, gummy presentation. Makes it taste...gray.
On the other hand, if you limit the corn starch and make sure there's lemon juice (and ideally butter!) then it will taste fresh and bright. The texture...I feel like rubbery is often when someone uses canned fruit instead of fresh?

Also! You have to use actually RIPE peaches.

@_L1vY_ Yeah, sounds like it's cuz they're canned.

There's actually a lot of fruit I've never been able to stand canned (or cupped) where I like the fresh version.

in reply to Taco Blacc

This is true, they are very different things. And I like canned fruit! (But not for that)
in reply to Taco Blacc

@_L1vY_ I'll admit when it comes to peaches for baking, I've tended towards jarred peaches, simply because they're a real messy pain to peel (even with a water bath and ice shocking I spend way too long peeling).
The key is to find a good brand, and I tend to get ones in water, not syrup so I can control sweetness

I've a bit of a soft spot for apple pie, but that's a child-hood memory thing - my Nan used to make it all the time (we were one of those families that spent Sunday at one or other of each other's houses when I was little); but I definitely preferred crumble - same reason.

in reply to Kevin Carson

@KevinCarson1 @neonsnake @waitworry @julieofthespirits @ciggysmokebringer @_L1vY_ the non-crumble version of cobbler we make is topped with like, thick dollops of biscuit/scone batter, almost like a desert chicken and dumplings (we mainly do blueberries this way)
in reply to NeonSnake

its probably pretty simple to base this off a cobbler and a biscuit recipe. make biscuit dough according to biscuit directions, chop and spice fruit according to cobbler directions, then just sorta layer the biscuit dough on top and cook according to cobbler cooking temp and time. I think apple and blueberries would be good together too

Some dipshit at my #pottery studio made something with low-fire clay that accidentally got fired in the gas kiln. (Outside #clay is NOT allowed, but they did it anyway.) Kiln is heavily damaged, along with a bunch of other people's pots. So we'll see if my pumpkin pot survived.
in reply to APB Boo

I once fired some wild clay in our electric kiln (with studio permission) it partially liquefied and ruined another person's piece. I was mortified.
