A new report by Responsible Statecraft reveals that the United States’ escalating military buildup near Venezuela is significantly benefiting weapons contractors like Lockheed Martin, RTX, and General Atomics.
The deployment includes aircraft carriers, guided-missile destroyers, submarines, and unmanned drones, with tens of thousands of troops now stationed in the Caribbean.
The Gerald R. Ford strike group alone adds over 4,000 personnel to the region.
These deployments serve dual purposes, targeting so-called “narco-terrorists” while pressuring the Venezuelan government. Critics argue this represents a broader strategy aimed at coercion and regime change, particularly due to Venezuela’s vast oil reserves.
Amid these tensions, arms manufacturers are profiting enormously from sustainment contracts, drone operations, and new procurement orders, such as the $14.1B MQ-9 Reaper support deal and a $3.1B Aegis system upgrade.
Venezuelan officials warn of the threat to national and regional stability. President Maduro condemned the buildup as a veiled attempt at domination, while Defense Minister Padrino López accused Washington of planning an illegal war.
