🚨If you live in the U.S., please call your Democratic Senators now.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. Republicans don’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

I must say this bill of goods that the R's have sold is pretty amazing. R's have the presidency plus both houses of congress, but if they can't pass a bill to fund the government it will be the *Democrat's* fault? And the Democrats are buying this?

Here is the alt-text description for the image:

A rectangular sign with a white background and dark blue trim reads "Church of Morongo" in a stylized font at the top, along with a small dove graphic and a cross. Below, in larger, blocky black letters, is the question "IS THE LORD YOUR DADDY?". The sign is mounted on a dark background.

yes, the popular saying "sweet jesus" is a direct reference to the Holy Sucrose Father mentioned in Leviticus

: why does this boy look like a girl?

Have you perhaps mixed up this picture with the toddler (born on 24 January 1943) shown in mastodon.world/@auschwitzmuseu… ?

Why does victims.auschwitz.org/victims?… return "... the person you were looking for was not found"?

Question I enjoyed musing about today was do I, as a viewer of Severance, treat Mark S/cout as 2 separate characters when regarding his innie and outie?

And I have to admit to *not*. But with the rest of the severed workers I do. It's really strange that I don't, but I can't explain why and also why it took me until now to realise this. Brains, eh? =D

The US imperial machinery is basically a giant spinning Beyblade and it's starting to slow down. On one hand, great, it's better not to have this great big spinning death machine. On the other hand, the spinning keeps it stable and as soon as it starts tilting, everyone's gonna get fucked up real bad before it stops.

#nowwatching Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)

I've been waiting ages to see this as I thought the Mrs would join me as she's a bit smitten with that Christopher Hemsworth. However, she recently decided that she doesn't like him with that prosthetic nose.

Therefore, I finally get to enjoy another slice of apocalyptic action. Can it match the awesomeness of Fury Road?

in reply to 💿 🎬 John 🎬 💿

I didn't like Fury Road the first time I watched it, fell asleep in the cinema. Was the company I kept.

Though, when I watched it again with Jonathan, I liked it a bit more. Fell in love with Furiosa right away though, bad nose job was a bit distracting for the start of the movie =)

NY State is suing Allstate because its sites handled user data in *plain text* - not a great look.

Huh. I got this email and it does seem to be sent by paypal, but the To field is not my email address or one I know. I checked my paypal account and there's nothing about this. Any idea how I got this email? I'm assuming it's a scam.
in reply to Al Sweigart

I figured out the scam and wrote it up here: reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/1j…?

Basically, they set up their merchant account with a merchant name that is literally, "If you do not recognize the seller, please contact.." hoping you don't notice all the other wrong details. But this does get them a legit email with a digital signature signed by the real paypal.com, which they forward to you.

The most underrated skill in tech engineering is the ability, or maybe the *willingness*, to be an idiot. Sometimes the best way to debug a problem is to forget everything you think you know and re-test the most basic things from ground zero. Sometimes the only way to design a good interface is to look at what you've made through eyes that have no idea what they're looking at. You know too much. Your users don't know anything. Be a user. If you can't be a user how can you make a thing users want

No, I can't either.

The problem with my father-in-law is that he's spent the last 30 years very frustrated that everyone he knows, including his age peers, uses computers and smartphones but he simply can't figure them because the model doesn't match his expectations of how machines work.

It's exasperating because I literally don't know how to teach someone to use a computer without teaching them the UI model, but I do understand not wanting to know that stuff if all you want to do is send an email.

in reply to The Other Brook

@theotherbrook

From the other end of the spectrum, back in late 80s I was showing a young adult, just not computer savvy, how to send an email.

As per best practices, I had them touching the computer, with me explaining and pointing. It felt very much like an acoustic modem down-negotiating speed as I had to find their level of familiarity.

"Move the mouse to click the envelope" didn't make sense.

I had to go back to explain horizontal X-Y plane mapping to vertical xy motion on screen.

The Hill: Trump administration cancels disaster training for meteorologists amid staffing, travel cuts

thehill.com/policy/energy-envi…

#Politics #USpol #WX #disasters #weather #NOAA #NWS

The Trump administration is escalating its attacks on students and immigrants. DHS just arrested Columbia student activist Mahmoud Khalil — a lawful permanent resident — inside his own building. His wife is 8 months pregnant. DHS and Trump do NOT have the power to revoke a green card. Only an immigration judge can strip lawful permanent resident status. This arrest is political retaliation — a test run for Project 2025’s crackdown on dissent. We won’t let it stand. nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna19560…
in reply to Indivisible

The Trump regime is using ICE to silence dissent — not just against immigrants, but against anyone who dares speak out. Mahmoud’s arrest is a warning shot, and we cannot stay silent.

This isn’t just about Mahmoud. It’s about the authoritarian playbook Trump and his allies are testing right now. Project 2025, Project Esther — these aren’t just policies on paper. They’re a roadmap for criminalizing protest and crushing political opposition.

in reply to Indivisible

MAGA’s message is clear: If you speak out, they will come for you. That’s what authoritarian regimes do. Every university, every city, every movement must fight back. Columbia — and every other university — has a duty to protect its students from government repression. That means:

1) Blocking ICE and DHS from campus.

2) Erasing disciplinary records tied to protests.

3) Refusing to cooperate with political crackdowns.
