I finally finished reading Mastodon.

Fun read but the plot was all over the place.

in reply to Mr. Funk E. Dude

Would you have it any other way?

And get this...come back later, and it'll be a brand new story!

America is to blame for the American drug problem....NOT MEXICO NOT CANADA.
America is to blame for the Mexican GUN PROBLEM 100%.

It's 11pm and I'm currently making sausage pasta sauce while drinking chili-pineapple moscato. Why not?

I feel like "The Not-Boring Story of the Last Time I Was Bored" is a book waiting to be written.

Finally watched some tutorials and got myself off the ground with Nomad Sculpt! Which is funny, since my first project is a flightless kiwi. :3

Thanks again, looking forward to getting started!

I’ve seen Paperlike recommended before, often wondered about trying it as I do a lot of notes but find the bare iPad screen and pencil a bit slidey.

in reply to The Hat Fox

@thehatfox Absolutely! I've been using the Paperlike for years now, and I prefer the matte screen for both art and glare reduction.

Recently decided I wanted even more friction for drawing, so I bought some "MJKOR Soft Paperfeel Damping Tips" and have really liked it for the past couple weeks. I also tried a silicone cover for the Pencil tip, but it reduced the precision, which ruled it out for me.

Curious to hear your experiences, if you go for it 😀

When I discover a cool open source project: 😀

When I see the web site has a link to the project’s Twitter account: 😢

in reply to Pete Prodoehl 🍕

Is the twitter account still active? I know plenty of projects that had accounts, still have the link the website, but haven't posted since API access died.
in reply to AMS

@AMS It might be worth checking on that and then getting in touch with the project about remove the link and/or deactivating the account.

“It’s World Day Against Cyber Censorship, a great occasion to remind ourselves of the early optimism surrounding the internet. Once envisioned as a force for global connection and free-flowing information, the internet has instead (d)evolved into a place where access to knowledge and privacy are increasingly under threat. Big Tech has monopolized its infrastructure, and governments all over the world are too eager to capitalize.”

You forgot that in Montréal we also get oraanges/mandrins from Morocco !!!!

Used to be a 747 back in late 1990s now only a 787. But there is still the nonstop that brings cargo (and passengers).

in reply to Jean-Francois Mezei

@jfmezei Does the USA even produce mandarines or clementines? 🤔

I’ll add the Moroccan oranges. 😁
Thanks!

finding out that human fall flat, a game that’s been in the back of my mind but not as this like… ground-breaking game, sold 55 million units genuinely floored me

scott the woz mentioned it off-handedly in a video and i was just like… surely this is just one of his jokes right

it wasn’t

he’s dead serious

in reply to Ibly 🏳️‍⚧️

name me someone who's a fan of human fall flat

that's right they don't exist

so how the fuck did it sell more than most indie games ever

motherfucking it outsold balatro by 10 times

who are the people who bought human fall flat, i need to study them

in reply to Ibly 🏳️‍⚧️

genuinely, I think like 70% of human fall flat sales were people who bought it on console to play with friends like, a total of 3 times, got through 4 levels and then quit. I know thats what happened with my friend group, and we played like 6-8 people once, and none of us have touched it in like 3 years.

I need a new non-US produced show to watch to let me think about things that aren't US-related.

The Story of Pearl Girl was nearly perfect but I've finished it. And there's only so many times I can watch Who Rules the World and Once Upon a Time on Lingjang Mountain and Qi Refining for 3000 Years.

in reply to Michael T. Bacon, Ph.D.

Blood and Water, Netflix. Filmed in Cape Town, a taste of how hard African drama goes. Arnold Vosloo's Ludik is filmed in Joburg or Pretoria, but similar turn-it-up-to-11 bad guys.

This simple math puzzle has lingered in my mind over a decade because it has such a surprising answer. How would you solve it and explain the result?

> In a class of 500 students, 99% are right-handed. How many right-handers should leave the class to make it 98%?

You can check my blog for the [solution and an intuitive explanation](bshankar.pages.dev/simple-math…).

@pluralistic : "Trump won office in part by insisting that America's institutions were not fit for purpose. He wasn't lying about that (for a change). The thing he was lying about was his desire to fix them. Trump doesn't want honest refs – he wants *no* refs. To defeat Trumpism, we need to stop pretending that our institutions are just fine – we need to confront their failings head on and articulate a plan to fix them"

Play the right game; keep playing it to the end.

Everyone talks about how bad our administrative state is, I don’t see it. Everything could probably use some tweaking or “improvements” and that’s what the IG’s are for. That’s what they did! Civil servants are awesome and in every group there are some, shall we say lazy people, but not corrupt or trying to take the system down like the muskrat is so that he can sell it and our public lands to tfg’s own companies and broligarchs.

The sad part is that this moron has a good chance of becoming Canada’s next Prime Minister.

And yes, it’s real.

#OTD 12 March 1815 Anders Ersson Forss was born in the parish of Björnlunda, Södermanland. His father and brother Carl took the surname Nyström, while Anders and Lars took the name Forss. Three older siblings died in childhood. The youngest brother Lars, 20, froze to death on Anders birthday, March 12, 1844, while out in the weather. He was buried in May, so it is likely his body was not found for several weeks. Only Anders, my ancestor, and his brother Carl Nyström were left of 6 siblings. Both have many living descendants today.

in reply to HistorySheWrote

I really like hearing the stories. One question. What was the deal with changing surnames? And how did they decide or was it just random?
in reply to Asheville Charlie

@avlcharlie Sweden used the patronymic method for many years. My Dad is Jon, so I would be Jonsdotter and my brother would be Jonsson. As people moved to cities or left farming for trades, they would usually change their surname. Military men pretty much had to change. The name would have to be approved by the parish minister and then they would just take the name. Some were made up, many were based on combining nature features such as oak stream or new hill. The military men were often named after weapons or attributes like one of my guys who was fleet. That all stopped in I think 1902, when surnames were sort of frozen.
in reply to Asheville Charlie

@avlcharlie Adding, if you want more details, I put together a page I called cultural tidbits. I got tired of repeating the background in blog posts, LOL.

There's absolutely no reasonable doubt that NY Mayor Eric Adams cut a deal with Donald Trump to get DOJ charges against him dropped in exchange for letting ICE Nazi agents run wild in NYC.

Mahmoud Khalil's unjust ICE arrest & disappearance is the handy work of Adams as much as it is Rubio & Trump.

If Democrats want to show they fight for our Constitution and civil rights, force Adams out and elect a mayor who *actually* fights for the people.

yup! So many are woefully ignorant about how our system works (and have conveniently forgotten when the Conservatives were in the same situation).

[Destroying Seniors' Lives] Musk and his Big Balls Pretty Boys can't conceive anyone doesn't have computers or can't use them effectively

Their plan was to kill phone service to SSA, and force everyone to use the Internet, or in person, while simultaneously closing SSA offices and drastically cutting their resources. Absolutely monstrous. -L

in reply to Lauren Weinstein

I want to say it was part of the grand plan to gut SSA without seeming to explicitly make cuts there -- if seniors just don't (successfully) apply, that's not a cut, right? -- but I don't think there's enough multidimensional chess ability in that group.

It really was just incompetence and not being able to see anything from a perspective that isn't a young, technophilic male with no vision or mobility issues, wasn't it?

Sheesh.

One good quality (exactly.one) for this folding bike. It fits in a sedan trunk. Otherwise... low end shifters, not great quality anything. It does make airport pickup wait times more tolerable, however! #BikeTooter

“Canadian border agents were upfront about the Bergs' slim chances of being granted asylum when the family arrived at the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Ont., earlier this month, Kaitlyn said.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada says those seeking asylum "must prove that they have a real fear of persecution or face serious harm, such as torture or cruel treatment, in their home country or where they usually live."”
