@BsCreativeLife what's with these animals? What's going on in their little walnut brains that makes them so weird?

in reply to Low Quality Facts

Actually, Germans know. Several companies here are technology leaders for the whole world

Move south they said, you'll be sat on the terrace every weekend .

I’m actually jealous. When I lived in the centre of Ventnor I couldn’t see the storms unless I went out and got wet. Since moving to a sea view. There hasn’t been any!!

Hi, we are Anna, Berta and Clara! But you can call us the Fediverse Chicks 😎

We are proud one-week-old Spanish chicks and have neither been to Poland nor Toronto. 🐤

We're not really that big into medicine, but we're hoping to get into AxWax's vegetable field someday!

My wife is a german national green card carrier, what happens when her parents fall ill and she has to go back to Germany? Is she going to face denial of entry or worst, be detained? Honestly, fuck MAGA, fuck every last empty-headed, hallow poor excuse for a "human being".

Would it be inaccurate or uncharitable to summarise this vulnerability as: Web framework uses string formatting hack to allow internally bypassing middleware, doesn't prevent external users using it too? Seems fundamentally severe and would shake my confidence in the project.
in reply to James Scholes

@jscholes yeah, that's about right - the vulnerability itself doesn't shake my confidence much because every mature framework eventually uncovers mistakes like this - what matters is the response

In this case their response could have been a lot better though - see the timeline in the post, they clearly have room for process improvement there

in reply to Simon Willison

that is a weird one. just looking at the code and seeing “split” is a bad sign

Lee Valley Tools is Canadian, family owned and operated, has profit sharing with employers, and has a max 10x for executive salaries relative to employees.

This is the type of Canada we can build when we evict the fascist yankees and their greed capitalism out of Canada!

Well, Musk posted this in March 2023, French president Macron signed the law on the age of retirement in April 2023. This history in mind the meme is a bit off, no?

@futurebird it's funny that this argument has been going on since the 1960s. It was the insistence that images matter that provided us with the iconic Blue Marble after Stuart Brand was inspired by an LSD trip.

I found some better footage so I deleted my whiny post. But I do think there is a conversation here.

Good photos have a huge impact on the public!

in reply to myrmepropagandist

it's hard to discuss because there are engineering tradeoffs and with space exploration the money is controlled by politicians. But I agree, images matter! Nothing inspired me about space as much as the Juno flyby of Jupiter — that was almost 10 years ago!

Starting this month's photo posts with some BLM images

Here: stokes croft, July 2016. Eight years later and the US government is banning use of this and similar terms in the US govt, with subservient companies copying this to show their loyalty.

I wonder how long before Elon Musk does a database join of people who have used this hashtag on Twitter and who are listed as federal employees? Because he can now – he has the data.

Plinth of the Edward Colston statue, a statue which had been deposed, rolled over to the harbour and then thrown overboard.

It was the deposition of the statue which led the then home secretary, Priti Patel, to introduce oppressive laws about damaging statues. That is: rather than look at Britain's history in the slave trade – she made publicising its role a crime.

Might want to relocate these signal generators at some point but it fit, so there's that.
in reply to Andrew Zonenberg

Huge improvement, still a few small defects but for a practice sample I probably won't bother.

Gonna do a high resolution scan of the entire die at 20x, stitch, then decide if I want more time at 3um or if I want to go straight to a final polish.

in reply to Andrew Zonenberg

OK, I think I'm gonna say this is ready for the final polish (50nm colloidal alumina). Just need to get those few scratches out.

There are some larger chips at the edge of the die which is a problem I've struggled with in the past on hand polished specimens. Will likely have to run a lot of samples and experiment to see what reduces this effect. May or may not be the same source as the "chatter" I've seen during some polishing steps.

I also really need to work on my vibration issues, I had to re-shoot some of these images several times before I got one that turned out less blurry. It might be time to start thinking about spending money on more expensive vibration damping for the microscope. At 100x, it really needs it.

We're at the limits of what I can optically resolve, but in the cross sections I can see STI, tungsten (probably) via plugs, five x1 pitch copper metal layers, one larger copper layer, and one aluminum layer for a total of seven layers.

#America Is Watching the Rise of a #DualState
For most people, the #courts will continue to operate as usual—until they don’t.

On Sept 20, 1938, a man who had witnessed the rise of #fascism packed his suitcases & fled his home in Berlin. He arranged to have smuggled separately a manuscript that he had drafted in secret over the previous 2 yrs. This book was a remarkable one. It clarified what was unfolding in Berlin…, the catalyst for its author’s flight.

Paul Cantrell reshared this.

in reply to Nonilex

…it was a mistake to think that even the #Nazis would entirely dispense w/normal #laws.…They had a complex, broadly #capitalist economy to maintain. “A nation of 80M people,”…needs stable rules. The trick was to find a way to keep the #law going for #Christian Germans who supported or…tolerated the Nazis, while ruthlessly executing the #führer’s directives against the state’s enemies, real & perceived. #Capitalism could jog nicely alongside the brutal suppression of #democracy, & even #genocide.
in reply to Nonilex

…Today, we are witnessing the birth of a new #DualState. The #US has long had a normative state. That system was always imperfect. Our #criminal #justice system, for example, sweeps in far too many people, for far too little security in exchange. Even so, it is recognizably part of the normative state.

What the #Trump administration & its allies are trying to build now, however, is not.
