Arbitrariness begins where we accept that anyone at all can be sentenced without a fair trial and denied their basic rights to humane treatment.
The moment we begin to see such a procedure as anything other than a fundamental breach of civilization and only individual cases cause us to lose our temper for a moment because we feel they are unjust, we have already fallen into the trap of not fundamentally questioning the violent abuses.
in reply to George Takei 🏳️‍🌈🖖🏽

Got it backwards.

Cruelty leads to incompetence.

Hate addles the brain. On average, subscribing to bigotry costs a person a third of their cognitive capacity.

I’m old enough to remember when Mozilla had a Mastodon instance.

That's nothing, I'm old enough to remember when Mozilla promised to never sell my data.
in reply to Michael Stanclift

Seriously though, what does Mozilla the organization need to advertise a Spotify page for?

Who’s sitting around wondering what they are listening to?

Edit: oh it’s their podcast. Well that’s even more infuriating. If only there was an open standard that enabled that technology 🧐

"Yo, we're like Open Source n' shit, check out this long list of corporate monopoly platforms we support!"
in reply to slyborg

@slyborg "Expect we don't support Mastodon, those people criticized us like Proton, man."
in reply to Shadow, First of His Name

@shadow @slyborg the frustrating thing is Mozilla did indirectly support Mastodon for a short period, aside from running an instance. They funded a code security audit a couple of years ago — that’s probably wasn’t cheap.
in reply to Michael Stanclift

@shadow The dreaded pivot. Baker's gone now, and they loaded up with ex-corporate types that are thinking about how to do the OpenAI thing and monetize so they can cash out somehow. For all the vaunted "disruption culture" in Si Valley, it's been groupthink there for really decades, right now you make money with ads and AI training data (maybe crypto depending on where you are on the grift scale). It's more likely Mozilla will put in a crypto wallet than a federated social media interface.
in reply to MrCopilot

@mrcopilot yeah, and have a way to have clients subscribe to a feed of data and syndicate the data to them.

It’s too bad nothing like that was ever invented.

I saw a jar of black olives marked as “Product of #Canada” on a grocery website last night.

I somehow doubt that 98% of that product was made in our borders.

@deshipu if your tap the grafted branches you could have olive syrup. Delicious!

Had a gig with a band of livecoding colleagues (plus bass, voice and some keyboard-played synths) yesterday and it went great!

Bought some schnapps glasses. They came with stuff inside that I have to remove with a spoon. And eat. It's hard work, but someone has to do it.

In the 90's, everyone wore cheap Versace, Fendi, Gucci, and other logo covered tshirts and whatnot, to pretend they were somehow with the elite people who wear those brands' actually expensive items.

I think the celebs are riding that, and have actually overtaken that market.

Next comes it's part of the natural progression: Ivy Part by Beyonsee, Sausage x Fengy by Reeanna, C Label by Goon, Shrew House by Beeber, and so on.

I'm not afraid of their side hustle I'm afraid when they are gutting programs that I need just to make it thru the month.

Have some good news. We have 10x the piping plovers that we did in the 1980s. Things can get better and move in the right directions.

#Myanmar's civil war enters its fourth year with 6,000+ killed, 29,000 arrested, and 3.3 million displaced. As global powers shift alliances, the balance of the conflict could change. A scholar explains: buff.ly/lRK1ygP

“Mr. Vance used a jocular and slightly vulgar epithet to describe the temperature, where he was wearing jeans and a parka, but no hat or gloves.”

The “Gray Lady” New York Times often seems to think it’s still 1955.

Fearful of offending blue-haired doyennes on The Upper East Side, it can’t bring itself to use a character-revealing direct quote from a Yale-educated faux “Everyman” who said, “It’s cold as shit here!”

It’s like Trump has staffers whose only job is to figure out new and creative ways to make this administration into even bigger scumbags than they already are.

Meanwhile. JD Vance and his wife spent only three hours in Greenland during a visit—entirely on a U.S. military base. Protests and a full business boycott forced them to leave, as locals refused to serve or admit them anywhere.

Fox News: Annexing Greenland is fine because it is no different than dropping the nuclear bomb on Japan.

I am sad to see the US paving the way for war with Europe, and I hope the people of the US make it politically impossible for Trump to take the next step.
