in reply to mhoye • • •From what I've heard, airplane mode is not sufficient to prevent device tracking, plus the device will still have its own record of where it was that can be used as evidence. Even turning the phone off may not be sufficient, and many phones removing the battery isn't an option.
Disabling biometric unlock and setting airplane mode is good advice for casual encounters, but if you anticipate anything serious leave the phone at home, bring a burner phone if you must.

in reply to mhoye • • •Airplane mode typically doesn't turn off GPS reception, so location services may need to be turned off separately. Otherwise, photos in airplane mode may still have EXIF location data (for example).
Airplane mode may not turn off bluetooth, so verify that is off.
Even then I wouldn't trust it. Airplane mode isn't designed for privacy, and it has evolved over time to be more permissive. I wouldn't be surprised if some phones still send an occasional IMEI ping even in airplane mode.
