Our local #NoKings went well, the organizers estimate 650 which is great for what seems like a first protest in this locale. Lots of excited people, more than I imagined!
A few counter protesters I shared, plus a guy who had a sign saying “suggest you remain peaceful” so the cops followed him around. The 8-12 cops were bored and focused on keeping things calm.
It also brought out the guys with trucks with giant Trump flags, but also the hit jeep with peace flag and rainbow flag, and an anti Trump giant flag as well.
Got to see a community that has previously been pretty quiet in this locale.
RFK Jr now going after ALL vaccines.
He argues that the Covid vaccine (which he’s restricted) was the only one that had proper safety testing.
He says they “dysregulate the immune system”.
Get your boosters. He’s setting the stage for “natural immunity” where only “the strong survive”
Eugenics.

The Montgomery County Courthouse #NoKings event in Norristown, PA, was well attended, I'd guess at least 500 there when I arrived. And this in light rain.
Happy to see a more mixed crowd today: young and old, not just white seniors, lots of different cultures and ethnicities representing.
These things suggest to me that the protest numbers from around the nation will be massive. I hope to see it.

I'm both a city mouse and a country mouse.
I've got a soapbox to stand on one of these days about how city-folk can tend to be dismissive of rural people for lots of reasons that aren't founded in reality, and hold stereotypes that are damaging and unsupportive. And about how this is just as divisive and feeding into fascist narratives as the misinfo about cities is.
But maybe not today. Right there is the point, even if I'm not up to outlining the details rn. For now if you think you may have this bias, look inward and see what you find.

I just got home from the #NoKings protest in #OKC.
Early numbers reports and a statement from the rally podium say THIS WAS THE BIGGEST PROTEST IN #OKLAHOMA HISTORY.
It was gorgeous.
We marched for about 1.2 miles to the rallying point outside City Hall. This took about 30 min.
Spouse & I were with 5 friends (3 more joined us later). By the time we had been at the rallying point for 20 min, the marchers further back WERE STILL COMING.
Literally every flavor of human represented.

I'll post pics later. Right now I need a warm shower. It started raining while we marched, and we stood in the rain for more than 2 hours.
It rained. They didn't leave.
It thundered. They didn't leave.
It lightninged. THEY DIDN'T LEAVE.
For what it's worth, for however long it lasts, I'm proud of you, #OklahomaCity. We showed up. And like true Oklahomans, we didn't let the weather stop us!
