@StefanEJones I've started, not yet finished, that series. Very, very different in tone - the book stories are lightweight and amusing farce, almost like P.G. Wodehouse, while the TV series is darker and addresses racism, suicide, etc. I think it's a good adaptation in the sense of 'interesting art inspired by earlier art' but terrible if you're wanting faithfulness.
I'm eager to check this out. There was recently a reprint of a Swedish author, Frank Heller, who wrote a similarly light series in the 1920s.about a European thief.
I just finished the third book in the series, The Hollow Needle, which is a madcap battle of wits between Lupin and teenage detective genius Isidore Beautrelet with true love and the secret fortune of the kings of France in the balance.
