Still only an advisory at this time, but it could be upgraded to a warning if the impact is expected to be large enough to warrant .

On the off chance a Warning is issued and the Tsunami Siren sounds, you will be able to hear it in all its glory on my backyard pond cam.
The nearest siren speaker is at Redford St and 4th Ave, just 1.5 blocks from Alberniweather HQ. I am just above the inundation zone.

Looks like ever so slight variance/waves coming into Langara Island on Haida Gwaii as measured at the Henslung Cove station on Langara Island. Maybe a few centimetres. You can see it best by looking at the gap between the red and black (observation and prediction) lines, or the blue line on the bottom.
Maybe 10-15cm? We'll wait for the official word from the TWC on what they measured.

From the Henslung Cove tide station on Langara Island, Haida Gwaii BC (NW tip of BC coast). In about 10 minutes the tide gauge rose to:
1737mm
and fell to
1569mm
That is a wave of 168mm or 16.8cm or 6.6 inches.
As predicted, less than 1ft/30cm.

Watching the currents in the Somass River at the head of the Alberni Inlet. I'm safely perched on a platform about 5 metres above the water.
The lights of the city and paper mill shining onto the water allow me to see how it is flowing. Have not noticed anything abnormal.
Also keeping an eye on data from tide gauges in Tofino, Bamfield (at the other end of the Inlet) and here. Nothing significant has registered.

The tide gauge at Port Alberni is still showing the tsunami is active in the harbour and river. Look at the difference between the shape of the curve around the last cycle of low and high tide compared to this cycle this morning and overnight.
I am sure there are still strong currents. Really hoping that nobody is in the river. It's hot today and people will want to swim. It could still be dangerous.

Two measurements: crest to trough, and amplitude (normal to crest).
To drop from Warning to Advisory, all amplitudes need to drop below 1m, or crest to trough below 2m (6feet).

They beleive that amplitude is now on downward trend and within an hour , may be able to downgrade from warning to advisory, but advisory may stay one for a while longer due to past experiences with delayed wave arrivals.

I managed to fit the previous post by massaging the data from Advisory 10 (Hawaii) and refreshing my regular expression skills to massage the text to remove columns, squeeze text with tab characters etc and even there I still had to remove about 3 entries from the list to fit the 1024 character limit.

Of all those readings by the US Tsunami Centre, KAHULUI MAUI is the winner with 1.75m amplitude (so 3.5m from trough to crest).
Remains to be seen how big the tsunami was on the westward waves to hit Soviet Union. (and how much damage was caused there by the actual earthquake).
I am really hoping that Johanna Wagstaffe (CBC meteorologist) will do an insight piece pulling apart the elements of a tsunami, what happens, when, and why.
It is so important to explain how the unseen is what can kill. Everyone thinks only a big wave makes for destruction. Those currents are really frightening. I fear for those who don’t know to fear them.

The National Weather Service has issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii, saying “a series of powerful waves and strong currents may impact coasts” following a large earthquake that rocked Russia.
“You are in danger,” according to the alert. “Get away from coastal waters. Move to high ground or inland now. Keep away from the coast until local officials say it is safe to return.”

Gov. Josh Green said significant damage is expected along Hawaii coastlines from anticipated tsunami waves, and implored people to evacuate tsunami danger zones
Green said that, based on ocean activity readings in coastal waters closer to Russia, tsunami waves are imminent for Hawaii, but that the expected size of the waves won’t be known until wave activity passes Midway at about 5:30 p.m. Hawaii time.

All residents in the City & County of Honolulu should get to higher elevations out of the tsunami inundation zone.
This is a moment in time when people need to prioritize the safety of their families... We need everyone to take this situation seriously, act accordingly, evacuate inundation zones, and listen to first responders. We are asking everyone to remain calm and be safe.”
The tsunami is expected to reach Kauai by about 7:17 p.m. and Oahu several minutes after that.

Charles “Chip” McCreery, director of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, said tonight that the first tsunami wave that hit Hanalei at about 7:10 p.m. measured about 1.5 feet above normal sea level. However, he cautioned that tsunami are a series of wave and subsequent waves could be higher.
“We are hopeful that it won’t be too bad,” McCreery said from the PTWC headquarters, stressing that “we’ve got a ways to go,”
