Today marks the five year anniversary of Covid being declared a pandemic. Some things I want people to remember:
The threat is not gone. People are still dying and becoming disabled every single day
COVID is airborne. It’s always been airborne. Droplet transmission was pushed incorrectly & then doubled down on for economic reasons. If governments admit it’s airborne, they have to spend money upgrading air quality and providing respirators etc.
The only way to avoid Long Covid is to not get Covid.
A well fitted respirator like an N95 offers excellent personal protection
Mask mandates belong in healthcare
If you’re not masking for your patient, you’re abdicating your responsibility to do no harm
It costs nothing to open a window and it will improve ventilation and reduce odds of viral spread. Air purifiers work well too

Repeat infections don’t make you stronger. They don’t give you immunity. They actually harm your brain, heart and immune system. They’re also NOT inevitable
Kids are harmed by COVID too. They need the adults to protect them. We need clean in schools and on school buses
We went “back to normal” for capitalism. It wasn’t because it was safe. It wasn’t because there was a cure. Governments and those in power Are willing to sacrifice us to keep end stage capitalism afloat a little longer
Repeat infections are NOT inevitable. We can still curb the spread. We don’t have to accept constant sickness and disability as our new normal.
May we be in a much better place five years from now than we are today.
If you know someone suffering from Long Covid, reach out to them. Ask them how you can support them. Remind them they’ve not been forgotten. Wear a mask for them. They are counting on you.

Is on its way to be merged! It's a function that fetches replies from the homeserver of poster when you click a toot directly in your interface. This addresses biggest issue I have with Mastodon's federation. Exciting and can't wait to see it working on my instance!

It’s unbelievable that Windows 11 does not recognize that I removed OneDrive and ms Teams. After one simple update or reboot, it always comes back. The CPU is constantly running at 100%, and I don’t have anything open except for Task Manager. This laptop is less than 24 hours old, and I’m already preparing to switch back to Pop!_OS in the next few days. I knew that Windows was terrible, but even after de-bloating the OS, I don’t feel or see a difference. #Windows11 #PopOS #linux
@european No, I don’t want Windows; I haven’t used it for years, except at work. I’m happy with Pop!_OS. I know there are millions of things I can do to improve Windows, but it’s just not my operating system. If you have to tinker so much with an OS to make it a bit less CPU-hungry, then it’s not worth it.
Today on my early-morning walk I finally saw some snowdrops and crocuses. Usually by this time my primroses would be blooming and there would be daffodils everywhere. We're having such a late spring after all the polar vortices.
Annie's special food has not yet arrived, but she seems to be doing well on the anti-nausea meds and she loves the pill pockets. So there's hope.
Today will be a day of laundry and writing. Laundry, anyway. We'll see about the writing.

One of the biggest tricks these people ever pulled was tricking us into thinking that it was our responsibility. That if the world is torn up by freak hurricanes, droughts, and uncontrollable fires it's because we didn't recycle enough when, all along, it's these people and those they represent who are the ones who aren't doing what they knew all along they had to do.
