This Account Kills Fascists
@Christian_Freiherr_von_Wolff He says yes but not actually super long. 15 - 30 seconds, he can't quite remember.

However long the exposure, it made a perfect capture. I love it!

Canadian retailers transforming their supply chains effectively on a dime on the way to 0% U.S.-made products and their shoppers totally down with it [Edit, per a Canadian commenter: not just "down with it" but DRIVING it]. Maybe something to think about when you can't be bothered to do the handful of clicks required to shutter your Amazon account.

@pluralistic :

"Amazon's excuse for destroying your privacy: they want to do AI processing on the audio Alexa captures, and that is too computationally intensive for on-device processing. But that only raises another question: why does Amazon want to do this AI processing [...]?

For Big Tech companies, AI is part of a "growth story" – a narrative about how these companies that have already saturated their markets will still continue to grow."

"Every part of this Echo privacy massacre is downstream of that [pro-monopoly] policy choice: "growth stock" narratives about AI, twiddling, DMCA 1201, the Darth Vader MBA, the end of legal privacy protections. These are material things, not ideological ones. They exist to make a very, very small number of people very, very rich."

More dark marks on this corrupt criminal POS. Resign and prosecute! If he's pardoned for federal charges, charge with state crimes.
in reply to ProPublica

This is the type of thing that gives police a bad name in spite of the illegality and inhumaneness of their behaviors. Could the Gov use his cover up to get rid of Adams?

The SF I write was always "not mainstream"—YA then singularity stuff but not the way many in the genre showcased SV's toxic tech religion...

But since I've been writing #solarpunk, it's the clearest rebuttal to this history of fashy SF.

so true. I love the way that things represented in @pluralistic ’s book “The Lost Cause”, with the MAGA grandpa trying to get the protagonist to read his Heinlein collection to get indoctrinated into the alt right.
I admit to also having a heinlein collection, so I feel a bit called out 😅

Welp, looks like Türkiye is looking at acquiring Eurofighter Typhoons instead of F-35s. At this rate, Trump's reputational damage—self-inflicted by attacking his allies and cutting Ukraine off at the knees—is going to take down the US military export industry. Nobody wants to build their armed services around weapons bought from a supplier who couid decide to disable them on a whim.

Hmm, perhaps we could travel to this "library" in a vehicle that's like a car, but larger, so several people could use it for a small fee. It could make some stops along its route to pick up other passengers also going to the library, or even to other destinations. Perhaps it could make the journey several times a day. We could publish a schedule for it. 😏

Measles virus targets certain immune cells in the body: What to know about complications

Measles isn’t just a rash and a fever.

The disease outbreak in West Texas that continues to grow has sent 29 people, most of them small children, to the hospital.

in reply to wordglass

In an earlier study from 2015, Mina estimated that before vaccinations, when measles was common, the virus could have been implicated in as many as half of all childhood deaths from infectious disease, mostly from other diseases such as pneumonia, sepsis, diarrheal diseases

and meningitis.

The researchers found that after a measles infection, the immune system can be suppressed almost immediately and remain that way for two to three years.

“Immune amnesia really begins as soon as the virus replicates in those [memory] cells,” Mina said.

Then drama!

Started a project to organize my camera stuff in a desk a drawer.

#3dPrinting

in reply to Kyle Davis

On this project I’m not printing bottom layers: they just don’t show and are a waste.

I’m also using lightning infill.

I hold my breath when it starts but I’ve only had one adhesion failure (and it was my unrelated fault).

#3dPrinting

in reply to Kyle Davis

I’m assuming the outer walls don’t need the stiffening that the bottom layers provide?
in reply to Chris Huck

@chrishuck they’re 1.2mm wide (0.6 lines x2) which is plenty stiff for this application.
in reply to Kyle Davis

I’d reckon. It’s often amazing how the slightest border for a bottom layer can stiffen walls without adding a lot of material.
in reply to Chris Huck

@chrishuck the next level of organization will have base layers, but honestly once this is in the drawer, it will be strong enough to park a truck on top of.
in reply to Kyle Davis

Project update:

Finally wrapped the first layer. Next up is removable trays for the second layer.

#3dPrinting

in reply to Kyle Davis

Printed the first top tray for the drawer. Fits perfectly on the first try.

I love how I can get exact fits with #3dPrinting. Now to fill this tray up with more camera stuff!

in reply to Kyle Davis

Back on #3dPrinting/#organization bullshit.

The first tray of the second layer is looking nice, if I do say so myself.

in reply to Kyle Davis

This #3dPrinting project is finally over!

~98% of my #photography gear lives neatly in this single drawer now.

The top two trays have my Nikon 1 cameras, battery chargers and spares as well as (most) of my 35mm negative scanner.

The Diana flash units kicked by butt. They have a really odd, organic shape that I had a hard time modeling, so I just modeled the “female” port and plugged them in.

There is only one misc area for extra lens covers that aren’t worth organizing.

My oh my… Trump just reached the find out phase.

Canada likely to follow in Portugals footsteps and cancel the purchase of 72 F-35 fighter jets, because that aircraft is made in the dictatorship from where The God King is threatening all NATO allies.

if Canada has to take some of the planes that have already been agreed to be delivered and don't want a mixed fleet at home, I am pretty sure Iran or Saudi Arabia would buy them...

Yep, find phase gonna start ramping up.

Plus, I don't blame them. Why would you trust a dang jet that dependent on working software from a country being run by a nut job.
