I mean look folks, we call them "trade wars" for a reason, and when that trade war is attached to a repeatedly stated desire to annex our northern neighbor, the intention could not possibly be more clear. The media needs to start reporting this as "Trump's attempts to annex Canada" but they won't, because the billionaires that own these for-profit companies are very excited about the prospect of looting Canada like they loot every other country the US forces to submit and they're probably already picking out their climate crisis bunker plots in Northern Ontario.

Please note: Trump has apparently deleted the post (twice) because um, trying to annex your closest ally over social media is probably not a "an extremely stable genius" kinda thing to do. Doesn't change the fact that Trump keeps stating his clear intention to annex Canada and the American mainstream keeps pretending this guy, who has never successfully told a joke in his life, isn't serious about doing so - even though he blurts out his desire to make Canada the 51st state every 2.5 days.

"Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on "Electricity" coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARRIFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th. Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous. I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S. to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. While the American media and political establishment struggles to take Trump's open an repeated threats to annex Canada seriously, the Canadians themselves are having no such difficulties. Please keep in mind this is the national broadcaster in Canada, so more or less their most serious news organization (that still sucks for all the same reasons *our* pro genocide media does, but I digress) - they don't publish things "for clicks" and when CBC is flatly stating that Trump means to take over Canada, they're not employing hyperbole. Also, please take note of the importance of fresh water in the Canadian analysis here and cross reference it with what I said about climate imperialism above.

(Aside: can we please not do that thing where you folks respond to this with something that more or less means "don't worry, it'll never work" and then start wargaming out a Red Dawn fantasy about how hard Canada will resist a military invasion.

For starters, Americans should be shutting it down in the streets to stop that from ever being a realistic scenario. Furthermore, pretending that the United States does not have a massive soft power and economic arsenal capable of strangling smaller countries until they have to give up without a shot being fired or their people start dying, just demonstrates that you know very little about the US's shameful history of (not so) quiet imperialism in the Americas.

I do not care if Trump will succeed in taking over Canada, what I care about is the fact that he means to do so, is actively trying to get it done, and the American establishment is playing it for jokes on late night TV or ignoring it entirely. )

I don't want to go *too* far in praising this article, because there are still a large number of problems with the way it minimizes the danger of Trump literally annexing Canada, but its existence demonstrates that at least one US media outlet (NBC) understands that Trump is not joking, or playing the angles here, and is in fact dead serious about taking over Canada:

Trump's quest to conquer Canada is confusing everyone

"Speaking with reporters in the Oval Office, Trump first mentioned his love for Canadians, including his “many friends” like hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. Then he riffed about how Canada shouldn’t exist as a sovereign country before getting to what has increasingly become a fixation: wholesale annexation of Canada as a U.S. state.

"Canada only works as a state," Trump said Thursday. "We don’t need anything they have. As a state, it would be one of the great states anywhere. This would be the most incredible country, visually. If you look at a map, they drew an artificial line right through it, between Canada and the U.S. Just a straight, artificial line. Somebody did it a long time ago, many many decades ago. Makes no sense. It’s so perfect as a great and cherished state."

"But why should we subsidize another country for $200 billion?" Trump continued, adding, "And again, we don’t need their lumber, we don’t need their energy. We have more than they do. We don’t need anything. We don’t need their cars. I’d much rather make the cars here. And there’s not a thing that we need. Now, there will be a little disruption, but it won’t be very long. But they need us. We really don’t need them. And we have to do this. I’m sorry."

As I said at the top of this post, this is by no means a perfect article; NBC spends far too much ink focusing on Trump's personal animus towards Justin Trudeau (who is no longer even the Canadian Prime Minister) and allowing named GOP officials to pretend they're confused by Trump's annexation plan even as they enact his orders to try and make that plan a reality. Crucially however, this report *does* make it abundantly clear that Trump is dead serious and his minions know full well that he's not joking:

Unfortunately, and despite this refreshing frankness, I have some problems with the sloppy journalism and credulous naivety with which NBC states that nobody knows where Trump is getting the idea to annex Canada from, including Republicans in his government. The fact is that MAGA-connected fascist propagandists like Candice Owens (and others) have been advocating for taking over, or even invading Canada since at least 2021-2022 for a variety of reasons; including natural resources, water rights, climate imperialism (although they don't use that term,) and even to protect their ideological brethren in the larger Canadian fascist movement from legal repercussions for their own slow-moving coup attempt in Canada, the so-called "Trucker Convoy." I genuinely have no idea if US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has any clue what Trump is thinking, but fascist media personalities in Trump's orbit certainly do, and this regime has already shown a willingness to outsource official policy from raving nazi dipshits on YouTube, so I don't think "where Trump is getting this idea from" is the kind of puzzle you need Scotland Yard's finest detectives to solve.

Canadian folk duo Cassie and Maggie face bizarre loyalty test at routine traffic stop in Ohio

"A routine traffic stop in Ohio turned into a bizarre loyalty test for a Halifax-based folk duo last week. The Celtic-music sisters Cassie and Maggie say they were on a short American tour when they were pulled over for distracted driving by two highway patrol officers who separated the siblings and asked them each if they preferred Canada to the United States.

“I found it to be a very jarring question,” said fiddler-singer Cassie MacDonald. “And the fact we were both asked that question independently makes me think it was a mandate coming from above."

The unsettling interrogation comes at a time of tense Canada-U.S. relations caused by an American-instigated trade war and remarks by President Donald Trump, who has publicly eyed Canada as a 51st state and referred to former prime minister Justin Trudeau as “governor.”

Apologists are going to say the Ohio pigs were just making conversation, but the sisters (who were obviously there) don't think so, and given their further testimony in this piece, I'm inclined to believe them. As the women noted:

- they were driving a car with Oklahoma license plates and the traffic stop only escalated once they identified themselves as Canadian.

- the officers brought out a drug sniffing dog, and claimed the car had "tested positive for narcotics" (none were found); during the search at least one of the officers repeated Trump regime talking points about Canada being a major source of drug smuggling, which is literally not true.

- both sisters were asked the same inappropriate loyalty question; one sister directly quoted the office as saying "‘I have an important question to ask you, which do you prefer, Canada or the United States?’ and felt that whether or not she would be free to go depended very much on her answer. There is nothing particularly casual about that.

Look folks, I don't think you have to be a genius to realize that when Trump himself is talking about annexing Canada, treating the Canadian Prime Minister like he already *has* annexed Canada, and openly lying his ass off about Canada flooding the U.S. with fentanyl, the behavior of these murderpigs during a routine traffic stop of a Canadian folk signing duo is highly unlikely to be random or benign. Someone in a position of power told these cops to do this, and given that Trump keeps claiming Canadians *want* him to annex their country, I am inclined to believe that ultimately those orders come from the very top of the regime.
