HP avoids monetary damages over bricked printers in class-action settlement
HP has previously paid millions for bricking printers, but not this time.

I thankfully do not own an ink-jet printer. I switched to laser (Brothers). While the ink cost most, it surely last longer. Most importantly, I can let my printer sit there for years without printing anything, and my ink is still good, and my printer is not clogged.

The up front cost for both the printer and the ink may be more, but I gained myself both peace of mind and longevity for both (the printer and the ink).

Currently learning how to play #Starforged and as I apparently enjoy the journaling part of it I just built myself a traveler's notebook 😊 Apart from two notebook inserts, this also has an insert for holding my character sheet and my assets, plus a move cheat sheet.

most likely Saudi money.

We are very focused on Russia these days, but the Saudis are the second largest owner in the X owner group, and, let’s face it, the Crown Prince isn’t a huge fan of democracy or a democratic America that in close partnership with other western democracies promote renewable energy infrastructure in every corner of the world to diminish use of fossil fuel.

I know that Saudi Arabia and Russia are no traditional allies, but the rise in global climate change activism probably paves ways for all sorts of unholy alliances these days, hence the many meetings held in Saudi Arabia around the invasion of Ukraine. To think the Saudis don’t have a hand in that war is naive at best.

*The force (not the figure heads) behind Project 2025, comes from financing of roughly 100 members from the fossil fuel industry, including national wealth funds from UAE and Saudi Arabia. Not exactly poster children for democracy.

I have an odd perspective on this: the problem is pretending that it's science.

It's magic. Admit it's magic, not science, and I'm fine with it. Pretending it's science is assigning it a reputation for accuracy that it doesn't deserve.

Does it really matter if we call a girl parrot "Bobby"? It does not. So using magic is fine here. As is flipping a coin.

Do you use Mastodon's web interface? Do you get frustrated when viewing a thread with content warnings because you have to open lots of CWs individually?

There is a solution to this problem: just click the eye 👁️ icon in the top right corner to toggle all the thread's CWs open or closed. (If it doesn't seem to work, click again. It's a toggle switch!)

More info and questions answered about this feature at:

in reply to Fedi.Tips

I just set it to auto-expand content warnings. The CWs usually match hashtags that I’ve explicitly subscribed to, so it’s a weird UI thing to say ‘at, you want to see things like this, I will hide the, for you, but only sometimes when the poster remembers’. Not tying CWs to hashtags was one of the biggest mistakes in the Mastodon design.

I am very sorry, but while I LOVE the Fediverse I really HATE the web interfaces. Seriously!

A thing I've been thinking about a lot is how, whether, technology like computers and computer screens could be made "locally", i.e., within a limited area and without access to global trade in parts and minerals, even if you have to make drastic trade-offs to get there

in reply to mcc

I hope to see spinoffs from Nasa's moon base in these areas. Eventually you'll want to be able to fab replacement chips off Earth, and you'll want something small, safe, and capable. It doesn't need to do 2nm chips, but maybe 2000nm chips are doable without crazy requirements like X rays or dangerous chemicals, and capable enough for medium complexity jobs.
