A CDC clone site with false vaccine claims is hosted by an NGO once led by the current HHS Secretary. With CDC logos, real social media links, and a near-identical design, it may violate federal laws.

I don't usually complain about things like this but every single time I try to use inkscape it is an exercise in extreme frustration. I'm watching a YouTube video of a guy. He types in "text" and stretches it and clicks on a color and the text turns that color. I type in "text" and stretch it and click on the same color in the same color picker and nothing happens. I have clicked in every single rational choice of options on the screen. Something like this happens every single time I use this.
@SeaFury I click on yellow and draw with the pencil tool. It draws in black. I try the brush tool. Also black. I choose bright green and the fill tool and click in the canvas. Nothing happens. I get black. Maybe I have a version so old it doesn't support colors. Or maybe it's the most annoying damned program I've ever used.
@bryan Oh, interesting. That could be my problem: I'll try it. Bleah, nope. I've tried HSV, HSL, RGB, CMYK, and HSLuv, with opacity at 100% and many combinations of all the sliders, in both fill and stroke paint, on flat and gradient, and I still have just black text.
I've successfully used Inkscape many times, so I opened it up and did exactly what you just did. And got exactly the same result! But I fixed mine! The color picker is HSL, and for whatever reasons S(aturation) and L(uminosity) were defaulted to zero. Changing S to 50 and L to 100 made H(ue) choices work as expected.
@bayport_moto I appreciate it and will work through his videos, but I've tried HSV, HSL, RGB, CYMK, with opacity at 100%, using many many different variations of flat, gradient, and pattern color sliders, in both the fill and stroke tabs of the fill and stroke window, and I've not yet managed to get anything other than solid black text and black outlined brush and pencil strokes.
@SeaFury Bummer to hear. I'm a fan of Inkscape and think it's pretty great for being free (and open source) I agree that it is nuanced and a lot to keep track of. For the challenges with the text, it sounds like you might be inadvertently choosing the color for the stroke/lines instead of the fill. @bryan EG: fill and stroke tabs in HSL with S and L set quite high. If I click away from the selected text, the fill and stroke tabs both change to other settings, so they seem to be indicating what the selected (black) text's settings are. Absolutely no idea what's going on.
I'm using LibreOffice Draw, and at least it lets me set text color and save transparent backgrounds, so I can do what I need, but argh I wish I understood inkscape.
I’m running v1.3.2 on my Mac, and your problem really vexed me because I’ve done so much successful design in #inkscape. I typed in some text, stretched it, changed the fill color, stroke color, and stroke type. It worked just fine. I then switched the Display Mode to ‘Outline’, and you get nothing but black and white on the screen. Perhaps check that?

@chrishuck This is likely, because when I was first trying to add text, I clicked on the text tool and typed some stuff in, and that definitely did not work. (I couldn't tell because I thought I was typing in white letters on a white background because that's what I needed for subtitles.) I realized that with my setup I have to hit F8 to add text. Otherwise I'm just typing in keyboard shortcuts.
Wow that sounds so strange. Now I'm really curious. I've recently resurrected an old laptop with Linux, I'll install a gray copy of Inkscape and wondering if there is some weird bug with latest version.
@chrishuck suggested that Inkscape was in outline mode, and I went and learned about display modes and put it in normal mode, and now the text changes color correctly and I can get to doing what I wanted originally! Woooo!
What version and OS are you using? Not sure if you're getting help from others, but I'd be willing to jump on a call to help you sort thru it all if you want.

Those outside the US seem to think differently. I assume you all have good intentions, but it occurs to me that our different systems of government are causing you some confusion.
In the parliamentary system, if you have a far-left party, you can vote for them. They might win a few seats, and those representatives will form a coalition government with the more moderate left party. More far-left seats means those ideas get a bigger voice in the coalition.
In the US, that’s not an option. There are two options. Period. So turning Democrats against each other is harmful to the country, as it empowers the Republicans, who have turned into the party of Nazis.
