had some tangarine buttons printed in SLS nylon, thrown in with my most recent jlcpcb order. they came out very nice. i got them in white because i want to try dyeing them.

frames arrived safely, but several of the buttons (i got ten sets because i wanted to include a couple in the few kits i sold, but they had not even finished production by the time i was ready to ship them) had broken off by the time i got the package. they did warn me about that and i told them to print it anyway, so fair, but i'm surprised since the remaining ones seem plenty flexible along the button-linking sticks.

they're still usable though, since the outer buttons are all captive within the frame. the inner button is just held in by its connection to the outer ones, so presumably it'd fall out if you managed to break off every single button on one of them, but It's Probably Fine(tm)

Heartwarming news from Eskikaraagac Village in Bursa! For the 14th consecutive year, Yaren the stork has returned from its migratory journey to reunite with local fisherman Adem Yilmaz. Their unique bond continues to captivate and inspire, symbolizing the enduring connection between humans and nature.

I thought they called them hallucinations because they're emotionally attached to the idea that these things are sentient.

I have an excellent excuse for this week's linkdump: I'm in Germany, but I'm supposed to be in LA, and I'm not, because London Heathrow shut down due to a power-station fire, which meant I spent all day yesterday running around like a headless chicken, trying to get home in time for my gig in San Diego on Monday (don't worry, I sorted it):

The part around 6-7mins I really feel. My family and a lot of people I know always come to me for tech help, so I thought I knew a lot of stuff, but when I started talking to people that are hardware engineers or programmers I realized how little I actually know about computers. Going into my education in computer hardware engineering with that understanding has been really refreshing. I don't know anything and I just want to learn!

an entire 20+ year career in computers - including hardware design and firmware programming, and half hearted writing about tech - and I still don’t know anything.

Afternoon wins:
* found a spare toilet pedestal under the house, left over from reno. Took to office in case landlord dawdles on replacing broken one at work
* sorting out population of deep cycle lead batteries. Charge, recondition or recycle? (about six of ‘em)
* food and party supplies shopping with Mx 17. Indooroopilly was -ing packed. Must be everyone doing postcyclone re-stock?
* trying some no-alc no-carb (water, hops, dark matter?) beers

ETA: I regret to inform you the beer is a nazi.

I will say this about lead acid batteries. They have a pretty much closed recycling loop, something lithium ones definitely don't.

So the good ol’ US of A is getting the finger from every border, Canada, Mexico, Europe across the Atlantic and Japan/Korea across the Pacific. All that is required now to complete the isolation is for Australia and ASEAN to close ranks with Japan and there we have it, the end of Pax-Americana.

There is no logic here. Japan and S..Korea working with PRC on what ? Security? What is the article saying is happening and what is happening.

We (Norway) used to be 5, but now we're like 7 or something, and out of the list (Norway is the only one if the major Nordics that's out of the top five, in fact...).

So with Finland on top, and Norway out of the list, a case could be made that trees make you happy, but money doesn't!

If you love Nordic noir thrillers, I warmly recommend "Darkness: Those who kill" (2019).

Ina Bruhn's social realistic script is so detailed, it feels like a window into a real world, where every character has a true backstory.

The 4 season series is disturbingly cruel at times, but if you can stomach it, the acting is convincing, and especially Natalie Madueño is amazing in the lead role.

Not since "True Detective" have I felt so captivated.

In Danish with subtitles on #viaplay etc

♥️ = 6/6

I think the full English title is "Darkness: Those Who Kill", probably to differentiate it from two other Those Who Kill series - there's a "Those Who Kill" from 2011 and an US adaptation of that from 2014.

Here be the root of the thread for my Criterion Channel #MichaelMannathon viewings.

The movies I'll be posting on henceforth are:

- Heat (1995)
- Collateral (2004)
- The Insider (1999)
- Ali (2001)
- The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
- Thief (1981)
- Manhunter (1986)

Many of these I _have not seen_ (!!!) so I'm excited. I'm also saddened that The Keep (1983) is not in the line-up. Alas. Maybe I'll watch it separately. Extra credit.

in reply to Owen Nelson

I'm finally here. Two more to go. Thief and Manhunter, then the extra inning which is The Keep. All of them darlings.
in reply to Owen Nelson

Thief is next and I have been waiting for this moment to finally view my new 4k disc.

It's late, but I'm going to fix myself a cocktail and roll this banger of a movie.

#NowWatching Thief (1981)

This is probably, almost certainly, my absolute favorite film from Michael Mann. It's got all the style. It's got great story beats. It's got massive attention to detail and authenticity (or so I'm told).
Incredible soundtrack.

Also, it's my favorite feature in the Chicagoland Cinematic Universe. Move over Ferris Bueller. See ya later, Blues Brothers.

What a sweet reward towards the down slope of this #MichaelMannathon

Okay, Manhunter was great. I sometimes think I'll do a double feature with Red Dragon (2002) except I really didn't care for that one very much at all. So... pass.

This completes the Criterion Channel offering towards my #MichaelMannathon but The Keep is calling my name. It's next.
