THIS JUST IN:

Yesterday, the people of #Paris voted "Oui" or "Non" to pedestrianizing and greening a further 500 streets in the city, and eliminating 10,000 parking spots.

The result: 66 percent, or two-thirds, voted "Oui"!

Apparently when you travel to the US, free speech is not allowed. Vance comments in Europe about freedom and free speech sound more hollow then ever before.
"The tactics have unnerved foreign tourists and sent a chill through immigrant communities in the United States, who say they are being targeted for speech — not for breaking any laws."

it’s time to also actively boycott science and tech conferences hosted on US soil boycott-ietf127.org/

Now that the US can no longer guarantee the safety of those who travel to attend these conferences, it’s time to actively isolate them from the rest of the academic community.

New in PN: Trump's hostile takeover of big law

"Paul, Weiss is now in the same boat as Columbia, constantly needing the administration’s approval to stave off new shakedowns. But the administration, like any bully, will keep attacking, will keep changing the terms, and no acquiescence will ever be sufficient. That’s exactly why bending the knee is such a bad idea." publicnotice.co/p/paul-weiss-t…

We Found Widespread Abuse of Disabled Patients at an Illinois Facility. The DOJ Is Investigating.

A federal probe into Illinois’ treatment of disabled people will examine abuse and neglect allegations at state-run residential institutions — including Choate, the subject of a yearlong Capitol News Illinois and ProPublica investigation.

Why do I not feel the slightest bit of confidence at being told the Trump DOJ is investigating?

They might not make NBC or CNN, but Americans *are* protesting. In record numbers.

Twice as many protests in 2025 compared to 2017. They’re simply smaller and more local than the large, centralized, single day events of early 2017.

And economic noncooperation movements are ramping up. The article links to reports Target’s foot traffics was down over 10% on days boycotts were called for.

And this was published before the congressional recess. Many groups are hosting empty chair town halls for their no-show Republican Reoublicans. They’re standing room only, in red districts.
