After the US has sent a military plane to Greenland with bullet proof cars for driving around Usha Vance, Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen says:

“This is an unacceptable level of pressure from the US, and we will push back. […] The Americans cannot claim, this is a private visit, and no one can read this independently of the statements from them, on their desire to annex another country. […] The future of Greenland is defined by the people of Greenland and no one else.”

So if the Greenlanders didn’t invite them, and there are no official meetings scheduled, no official business to be done, this becomes a Vance vacation, no? It should be on his dime, not the US taxpayers. I guess they’ll say he’s there to “inspect the troops”.

The image is a meme featuring a humorous contrast between a historical scenario and a modern party setting. At the top, there is a yellow background with text that reads, "The party having dinner: *Historically Accurate Medieval Barbarian: This was great, I'm gonna fuck some whores wanna come? The party:"

Below the text, there is a black and white image of four characters from an anime. The character on the left is holding a cup and appears to be looking at the others. The second character is wearing a detailed, armored costume and is holding a book titled "Holy Bible." The third character is a young girl with a surprised expression, holding a juice box with a straw. The fourth character is a male with spiky hair, holding a cup and looking sternly at the others.

At the bottom of the image, there is a note that reads, "*not actually historically accurate, but you know what I mean."

And I don't even think Goku would give him the stink eye like that.

Just horrendous and it doesn’t seem like there’s any appetite for a real investigation into coverup and corruption. Really surprised the New Yorker is using the term ‘child pornography’ when the far more appropriate term ‘child sexual abuse material’ has been in common useage for so long. This isn’t pornography

I can't believe they interviewed the guy, and he's like "the real problem is all these corrupt cops taking my money"

The "federated" service that isn't federated. Which is owned by one company. 🤔 (I know folks like it, hi all of you through the bridge... but it is not owned by the people, it is owned by one single company).

Right. That's kind of the point! The proto-fediverse was dominated by a VC-funded startup -- just like today's ATmosphere. And eight to ten years later the next-generaiton protocols (originally also developed by a corporation) got refined and adopted by a standards bodies -- just like will probably happen with AT Proto.

And presumably just as somebody from a Meta-funded non-profit has repeatedly shut down criticisms of Meta on the W3C ActivityPub mailing list, at some point somebody from a Bluesky-funded non-profit will try to shut down criticisms of Bluesky on whatever standards group is trying to take things forward.

There's a lot to critique with Bluesky but many of the critques apply to the ActivityPub fediverse as well.

Excellent update video on YouTube revenue in the tech creator space: youtube.com/watch?v=GeCP-0nuzi…

Glad they are transparent about numbers. And provides some context, especially comparing the tech space to others around 7:30

Ludwig the streamer has spoken quite a bit about revenue and such over the years. If anyone is curious about what a true top streamer makes.

@aethrvmn They make more than half their revenue from their merch/products, the other half is an interesting mix of sponsorships (25%ish total) and 'everything else'.

A lot of interesting details given, though only a few concrete numbers. Surprisingly, my channel seems to have a little higher RPM than theirs.

#ScribesAndMakers If you've sold your work, have you made a net profit?

I have. I've made enough to qualify for full membership of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA): sfwa.org/about/join-us/sfwa-me…

If you're an author of science fiction and fantasy, I would encourage anyone who qualifies to join SFWA at either the associate or full level. SFWA advocates for authors and provides rich opportunities to network and organize to improve conditions for the profession. Join us!

Apple barred from Google antitrust trial, putting $20 billion search deal on the line
Google's sizeable payments for Safari defaults could be ending.

Given Apple's often day late and a dollar short to market style, should we expect a new default iAI search engine that's baked into Safari that all other search engines have to use as a backend now with a 30% cut on all purchases resulting from clicks?

I'm still trying to set mine up. I connected it to my wifi but now my watch keeps getting notifications from someone named Pete saying that we will strike the rebels at dawn?

At dawn? Why am I always the last to hear. Really guys. I made you a potato salad without raisins. And this is how you help????

I effing hate potato salad but I guessed you would include me in your plans. And I’m done ironing you cape. And Darth. You have a very small dick. Tiny. Tiktac size. I would say fuck you, but it’s hard with such a small dick.

in reply to Low Quality Facts

That reminds me. They still have yet to make a professional looking ladies (not girl's or women's sports-related) digital watch with multiple alarms, a character based digital read out, and a watch face that's not more than 3/8" inch thick and has a nicely styled, professional looking watch band made of high quality materials.

Thankfully, I'll probably never go on a job interview again anyway, but I did need a watch like that a few years back.
