Do you have a Linux/*BSD/other kind of Unix-y type machine?

Do you have the process monitor software "atop" installed.

Best you don't.

in reply to Snaprails

@snaprails So it failed it memory allocation check. Probably because its out of memory, Maybe the "other user" used all the memory, maybe it just didn't free last time.

atop is generally used for system admin anyway.

Yes, there maybe the potential for a cross user buffer overflow hack, I think it would be small.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but meh?

Also I don't use atop.

RFK Jr. hires anti-vaccine advocate to study debunked vaccine, autism link
David Geier has been disciplined for practicing medicine without a license.

in reply to Ars Technica

Maybe autism is caused by plastic in our brains. Or maybe it’s just natural variability of a complex organ system within a species. What we know it’s *not* is vaccines.
in reply to Ars Technica

Dr Beth Mole specializes in covering infectious diseases and David Geier sounds like one.

Nudged by Rachel By the Bay: Web page annoyances that I don't inflict on you here, Dave Winer: Saturday, March 15, 2025, and some people/organizations' distrust of Let's Encrypt (and reason), I decided to enable sachachua.com instead of redirecting to https:// . The old redirects might still be cached by browsers, but it seems that curl sachachua.com/blog/ works. I'm not sure this is a good idea yet, but it might be worth an experiment.

My ISP randomly MitMs unencrypted connections and edits JS files to insert its own code.¹ However unideal HTTPS and friends is today, it is still preferable over that 🤷

The EU is urging households to stockpile food for 72 hours in case of a possible war, the Financial Times reports.

This comes amid warnings from European intelligence agencies that Russia could attack an EU member state within 3-5 years.

Russia predicts 15 possible military conflict scenarios until 2045, with 6 related to Northern Europe, Ukrainian intelligence reports.

Kremlin documents state the war with Ukraine must be concluded by 2026, as a prolonged war means it will never “reach the same level as the U.S. and China.”

Kudos to #StephenCurry (@StephenCurry) for his open letter to the #RoyalSociety, pointing out that Elon #Musk has violated the society's code of conduct, and asking it to remove him from the Fellows of the Royal Society (#FRS), to which he was elected in 2018.
occamstypewriter.org/scurry/20…

(Curry calls for signatures from "all members of the UK or international scientific community" and I just signed.)
docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

Kudos to #DorothyBishop (@deevybee) as well, who made the same call in her Nov 2024 letter of resignation from the society.

Update. "Elon #Musk will remain a fellow of the #RoyalSociety after a meeting to discuss revoking his association with the U.K.’s most prestigious science organization ended without any disciplinary action being taken against the world’s richest man…More than 3,400 scientists and academics have also signed an open letter expressing their dismay at the lack of action by the Royal Society."
insidehighered.com/news/global…
in reply to petersuber

Update. "The #RoyalSociety has decided not to take disciplinary action against Elon #Musk [who is a fellow of the society] over his conduct, saying that to do so could cause damage to the academy and science itself."
theguardian.com/technology/202…

PS: The RS is not thinking about how the 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘳𝘦 to take disciplinary action is damaging the academy, science, and of course the RS itself. It's also saying that its own code of conduct counts for nothing.

Moscow has doubled down on forcing Ukrainian citizens to obtain Russian passports.

It’s part of Russia’s effort to erase the identity of a people and their culture.

And it flies in the face of the international legal obligations Russia has as an occupying power in #Ukraine.

Broadcom’s VMware says Siemens pirated “thousands” of copies of its software

given the amount of fuckery Broadcom has been pulling with VMWare licenses I suspect that it's more likely that Broadcom is getting into the extortion business instead of Siemens getting into mass piracy
