@swope As far as I know, regular gangs don't do much kidnapping in the usa. But currently in the USA, rights and freedom and liberty and due process and good treatment are only afforded to citizens ... if you can prove you are one. Everyone else is a lesser level of human being and is subject to the Trump treatment.

@swope There is a lot that I don't know about. But whenever federal level organizations rampage through your state and arrest people, that seems pretty concerning to me. I'm sure the legalities can be justified (because humans are good at finding ways to justify whatever they want to do) but it seems like states should be raising objections of separation of powers. On the other hand, here in MN nearly 50% of the population loves all this hate so ...

@anoninfo @swope Yeah, when the underlying culture is that it's ok to do horrible things to bad people, and "bad people" are defined by the people in power, and when there is really no executive accountability for violating the constitution, you just need to convince your base that those were bad people and then do what ever you want with them.

I love posts like this because this is my daily life at work. Constantly looking at safety factors. Some of my coworkers (non-engineers) hate that we insist on applying safety factors or respecting published limits because “we’ve done it this way for years and never had a problem” when the reality is they were just lucky.

I’ve done a lot with Below-the-Hook lifting devices and the standards there are very explicit. The biggest lift I’ve designed for is 438 tons. Lots of thick plate.

Rabbit says hi
An eastern cottontail rabbit, looking straight at the camera, one ear cocked a little to the side, head slightly tilted, one cheek slightly raised as if in the middle of chewing something (they were), and one paw pulled up off of the ground. Overall they look just slightly askew in an extremely charming way. Their fur is fluffy and plush, in brindled shades of cream, light tan, warm brown, and brown highlights so dark they look almost black. The rabbit blends in very well with the mottled brown forest and leaf litter around them.
