🚨 New publication!

I am very glad that my article on Open-Source Software under the Cyber Resilience Act has been published in JIPITEC. The article delves into the (widespread) discussion surrounding the regulation of cybersecurity for open-source software under the CRA.
Working in open-source software and eager to know more about what the Cyber Resilience Act means? The article is, very much in the spirit of "open source", available in open access in JIPITEC now!

I've taken a while to think about what to say about this since yesterday

quaker.org.uk/news-and-events/…

What I'd like you to notice is that it's not the law or government policy to raid Quaker meeting houses to arrest people for talking together.

Notice it was a choice made by police who wanted to do it, and knew they wouldn't be held to account for it.

And I can't stress enough how much you do NOT want unaccountable police making up public policy. There's a name for that kind of country.

in reply to Rachel Wright

@virtuosew Of course. I forgot to quote the exact legislation(s) that the police used. You might want to include this (see the original article for details).

Cheers

Preventing Bird Collisions Webinar:
April 1 19:00 (7pm) Eastern Time

"Each year in Canada approximately 25 million birds die from building collisions. This is not only heartbreaking to witness but is a significant loss to biodiversity and the role these birds play. The good news is that there are solutions! Join the Canadian Wildlife Federation on Tuesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET to discover effective ways to prevent bird strikes at home, work or at the cottage. Our guest will be Michael Mesure, a founding member and Executive Director of Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP) Canada. Michael will speak about the work of FLAP Canada, how human-made structures threatens birds and offer solutions for mitigating building collisions. This will include examples of both effective and ineffective collision deterrent methods and some background on bird-friendly building design guidelines, policies, code and law. We hope you can join us!"

This deems delusional.

Did I miss some groundbreaking discovery about low back pain that discovers that it comes from an infection in our spine?

Because it’s kind of terrifying if they think low back pain comes from an infection that could be cured with antibiotics, so they think everyone with low back pain is walking around with a festering bacterial infection?

This sounds delusional.

in reply to Maggie Maybe

I can't evaluate whether this is bs, but chronic bacterial infections that don't fully clear on their own or with most (all?) known antibiotics are definitely a thing, and awful. It seems at least vaguely plausible.

Nice! I do that as well with one side of a pair of binoculars. This was from the previous eclipse.
in reply to NedMan 🚀

@NedMan You're getting a bigger image than I was too! Reading up on it afterwards I think the 90mm reflector telescope is a bit risky - there's a chance of overheating the secondary mirror! Better to put a filter on it to protect the optics.

Hmmm. Down here in the south of Spain, it’s not even registering on my solar panels. hahahha.
in reply to Kriszta Satori

When I bought my house here it was very cheap, but it was a wreck. The roof needed completely redoing. Beams, tiles, everything. And I figured out that for the same price as the tiles, I could use a rubber membrane and cover it with solar panels cheaper than the tiles. How crazy is that. But so I decided to do that. Of course, the inverter wasn’t cheap, but all in all, it worked out very affordable.
in reply to Madeleine Morris

nerd question: Would that be an EPDM membrane? I have heard those are used in parking garages too.

@Remittancegirl in Denmark we often use EPDM as a liner in garden ponds. Mine has lasted for 15 years now. They say it lasts up to 30 years.

Interesting! If I print using CHEP's extra fast profile, I can print out a calibration cube in 17 mins. As opposed to standard generic settings in 31 minutes. Very little between them and the standard one has a funny line on the back side. Great stuff. Now to try summat real... #3dprinting

So well put by George Monbiot. Applies to our tepid Labor government here in Australia too. People don’t want to be regarded only as economic units, and if you block leftist reform they reach for hard-right chaos.

"The democratic recession does not begin when a far-right party takes office. It begins when a centrist party crushes hope in democracy. When Keir Starmer’s government takes a chainsaw to people’s aspirations for a fairer, greener, kinder country, he cuts off not just faith in the Labour party but faith in politics itself. The almost inevitable result, as countries from the US to the Netherlands, Argentina to Austria, Italy to Sweden show, is to let the far right in."

#UKpol #USpol #auspol theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

in reply to Su_G

@Su_G the ‘centrist’ party in question I guess being something like New Labour in the 90s, 'cos I've seen no real indication Starmer isn't already the far-right, albeit perhaps ‘moderate’
@Su_G
in reply to zbrown

Every time Starmer talks about "workable Brexit", he's not left any doubt about that. However, it's equally fascist to prohibit the far right to be let in. That's exactly how Egypt became a dictatorship after the Arab Spring, so always keep that in mind.
