More than 10K people at the Torrance #NoKings demonstration. A huge number for a very moderate city. All peacefully protesting. Saw a neighbor and my daughter’s soccer coach there, both of whom I had no idea of their politics. Part of protesting is just letting the people in your community know how you feel. Makes me feel a lot less alone.

The USA's Donald Trump is co-opting a military parade to be in his honour, and shifting it to the date of his own birthday.

He has also rather pissed off his constituency, through many, many, many different actions.

So, these protests are reactions against his apparent attempts to act as a king.

The promise was that ICE would aggressively pursue and deport dangerous gangs, those invading communities to rape, pillage, and ...you know... eat our pets.

It is counterintuitive to imagine any success in finding those dangerous members working for years at Home Depot in Los Angeles or at the Glenn Valley Foods plant in Nebraska. Still, that’s where Trump aide Stephen Miller directs ICE raids.

I lived in Beijing for 3 years. Military parades are absolutely a staple of the Communist Party of China, and the People's Republic of China. However, these are held on China's National Day (their equivalent of the 4th of July), not on the president's birthday.

I couldn't make it to the Groton, MA #NoKings protest but I received a report from someone there that it was hugely successful. Tyngsboro protest is set to start at 1 PM at the bridge. Chelmsford is currently underway.
