for me, it's the easiest way to stay in touch with a couple of different organizations that have events (mainly group bike rides)
because i will not use meta products.
so not having instagram or FB leaves me really out of most loops. discord just gives me a small way in

I get the reason why one must use it, but I don't understand why the answer to the question is Discord, I guess. It seems like there are much better solutions to everything Discord solves, if that makes sense? Again, not criticizing anyone who uses it at all, particularly as Facebook metastasizes all over everything. I just... I don't enjoy using it, maybe? I don't know why I would enjoy using it though. I can posit a use-case for lots of other things I don't personally enjoy, but Discord eludes me.

Fantastic turnout today No Kings March, Palm Beach Gardens. Probably 2000 people or so both sides of busy highway, very inspiring in the brutal 32.5C heat/high RH. Only 2 MAGAt problems, big black oversized trucks w big wheels (always trouble, those) speeding past, yelling, flipping off. If police weren't there, they may well have run into the crowd. My 89 yr. old father, USMC vet was with ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ. Carlin Park in Jupiter run this morn., before, so taxing for me. #nokings #florida #running #birds

The first of two #NoKings protests in #Pittsburgh today went smoothly and I'm home and cooling off. โœŒ๏ธ

The most popular chant of the day was probably "Trump's a jagoff! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘", which is so Pittsburgh and I'm very proud. ๐Ÿ˜‚

We decided to leave after one (notably white male) individual reminded everyone not to talk to the cops (good) and then tried to start an "All cops are bastards!" chant (unnecessarily provocative, not the point of the protest).

Hope the second protest goes as smoothly!

Statement from Mayor David Newman Regarding ICE Activity in Thousand Oaks 14 June 2025 Your city government is scrupulously nonpartisan and laser-focused on local matters. Despite frequent calls to do so, we don't comment on outside issues. When outside issues come to us in Thousand Oaks, however, that's another matter. Yesterday agents from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted operations at multiple locations throughout the City. This is now a local issue. ICE actions here and around Ventura County have caused fear, uncertainty, and confusion among residents, espeically within immigrant communities. Local businesses were closed or short-staffed out of concern for the well-being of staff. This unease speaks to me personally. My immigrant grandparents fled pograms. For human rights advocay, my Ukrainian grandfather endured arrest and exile to Siberia. And it is hearbreaking to hear my in-laws -- first-generation immigrations who faced ethnic persecution -- worry about detection on our streets. If you are feeling afraid, help is available. If you need counseling or legal advice, call 211. Interface Services, which the City helps uspport, can help you identify the appropriate agency to assist. If you see anything you think is dangerous, call 911 immediately. The Thousand Oaks Police Department has nothing to with ICE. TOPD's only mission is working to keep all resident safe. It's also important to note that there are things city government cannot do.

I actually took part of a court settlement that was put in my savings and bought a red riding mower from Western Auto.

And my mower doubled as a parade feature. lol.

Oh, lort, this photo of me winning is embarrassing decades later.
