We now have both our cars being EV's, a '22 Polestar2 and just recently got the new Volvo EX30. Last week we had the Polestar in for a scheduled maintenance checkup (which they pick up and return) and they left us a loaner, which was a gas powered new Volvo. That's when you re-learn why driving an EV is SO much better. Once you drive an EV, you never want to go back internal combustion.

I love being in front at a stop light, then when the light turns green, I smoothly zoom off with instant torque while the cars behind me lag behind, haltingly moving forward with turbo lag from their Big Oil car...even if it's a muscle car.

And, of course, driving past gas stations.

My first experience with an EV wasn't quite the same. It looks fast, but with 8hp, it was fast like a Ford Pinto. Brother was working on it for Exide and brought it home for a spin in 1974.

It was fun. Weird shifting. High gear for starting out and low for cruising. Electric motors are very different.

Did you have to redo the bottom bracket? I'm redoing an old 70s bike boom 10 speed and I got stuck after fitting the bottom bracket because I didn't have crank arms to fit it. Did find a cool bottom bracket that expands to avoid the weird threading.

Reporting in from Torrance CA, which had a massive turnout much bigger than any previous rally. Lots of smiles and good noise, lots of kids, old people, dogs, teenagers. Hard to photograph because it was along both sides of a flat street, but there will probably be drone videos out there. Speakers included our state legislators, which, considering the horrible news of the morning, was moving in its own way. #nokings #torrance

Since I’m recovering from a medical procedure yesterday (kidney stone zap!), I didn’t think it prudent to participate in my local #NoKings rally today, especially in the heat. Have you ever had one of those moments where you thought of a really funny retort long after the right time to say it? I had an inspiration for some traffic-inspired protest signs... while I was at the #nokings #protest. Lucky for me, there will be LOTS more protests. I will eventually post these as SVGs with a CC0 license, and I will probably make at least a couple. Feel free to use them if you like them.
