My BizPartner is a pretty big sportsball fan (mostly baseball and basketball). As such, he mentioned the Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony that happened Sunday. This isn't one of those funny BizPartner convos. More of a sad post about Pete Rose.
So yeah, ,after he mentioned it, I bring up the topic of Pete Rose and his ban. I'm not a real big sportsball fan but I used to be when I was kid and well into my late 20s... basically when that big MLB strike took place in '94.
I think it sucks that he was banned for life from being eligible for induction despite still being the all time career hits record holder. He consistently maintained that when he bet on his team, it was always that they would win... even when they sucked, were underdogs or were on losing streaks.
Pete Rose was made eligible in May of this year... eight months after he died. He didn't get to see his release from the lifetime ban. He didn't get to participate in the Hall of Fame induction ceremony of which, I suspect, he will be inducted in the next few years.

I wish there was a college close by where I could watch women's softball. I've watched a little when in a restaurant and it was fun to watch. Makes me wish the old All-American Girls Baseball League had made it.

The local repair cafe said they were starting up a WhatsApp channel for all the volunteers. I said that was a great idea, but I no longer use Meta products on principal, so I won't be joining.
The next day I'm told they're actually starting a Signal group instead, because they *really* want me in the channel.
I'm flattered, humbled, and relieved. It's only moving the needle a little bit, but it's moving the needle nonetheless.

Wish some of my local groups would do that: you can have a long conversation with them about the invasiveness and consequences of surveillance by immoral tech giants such as Meta and Google, and how better alternatives exist and are easy to use… and they will nod wisely, and then say “So just fill in this Google form with all your details and then we’ll invite you to join our WhatsApp group so that you know when to sign up for our events via FaceBook”. Nope. Nopity nope nope.
