Yesterday's flight was a weather-related mess (four-hour delay) and we didn't get settled until 3am this morning, but this view is rejuvenating!
I always like to run on vacation, usually to get a feel for the area in a different way. It's been a few years since I've done a trail run, and the short stretch of the bike trail at Playa el Combate felt surprisingly remote. Mostly shady, which was great!
It's always amazing how shade--even if it's partial rather than fully blocking the sun--can make otherwise unbearable heat tolerable.

Most instances of stealing are not the result of necessity. I know that people who think this suppose that they are being enlightened but they aren't.
Think about it for a minute.
If people only stole because they were poor wage theft, insider trading, Ponzi schemes, pyramid schemes, general con artistry, etc wouldn't exist.
What about theft by poor people? Aren't rich people different than poor people?
Yes. Rich people have more money than poor people.
Being poor doesn't make you a saint. Being rich doesn't make you an asshole. Those are optional extras the individual brings to the equation.
Have you ever been poor and had something stolen by another poor person and you knew who did it? Did they do it to pay rent or buy food? Or did they do it to buy drugs or because they wanted that thing you had?
Look, I get the motivation to explain away bad behavior. But the truth is that people are a complex mix of good and bad, noble and shitty. Regardless of caste.
people in left-ish spaces have this knee-jerk impulse to blame some systemic problem for every instance of people behaving selfishly. which i get, but sometimes it really is as simple as selfishness, and we should be able to hold people accountable.
i used to work in an office where we had to lock the bathroom cabinets, because otherwise patients would steal our cleaning supplies. these were comfortable, middle class boomers who could definitely afford a bottle of Windex.
