I'm very happy that @reiniervanlanschot.volteuropa.org is fighting against #ChatControl in the European Parliament.

Let's closely watch what happens in the upcoming 1,5 months.

And let's keep building coalitions with everyone who has learned that mass surveillance is not compatible with liberal democracy.

Let's reach out to all parties that support liberal democracy. It is needed.

CHAT CONTROL IS BACK, AND IT'S MORE DANGEROUS THAN EVER. The Danish EU Presidency wants a law that forces scanning of everyone's private messages.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Your device would scan your photos, videos, and links before they're encrypted. Like the post office opening every letter in your living room!
WHY ENCRYPTION MATTERS End-to-end encryption means only you and your recipient can read a message. It protects banking, private conversations, journalists & activists. Weakening it exposes everyone to hacks, ID theft, and surveillance.
WHY IS THIS PROPOSAL FLAWED? Mass scanning normalises surveillance of private conversations (rights at risk). Breaking encryption leaves us all vulnerable to hackers and abuse (less security). Detection tools often make mistakes, wrongly flagging innocent content (unreliable tech). Even "accurate" systems would swamp investigators with false reports, pulling focus away from real abuse cases (police overload).
