While I formulated the idea of enshittification to refer to digital platforms and their specific technical characteristics, economics and history, I am very excited to see other theorists extend the idea of enshittification beyond tech and into wider policy realms.

The arc of the most failed governments also followed the enshittification script, didn't they?

Start off good enough for the citizens to establish a support and a power base.
Twist it into being good for the business/merchant class over the citizenry.
Finally, you transform it to only be good for the chosen insiders/aristocracy.

We judge most of history on how fast the script gets completed and largely ignore the repetition. If they rush it, we call them bad.

any thoughts on trade-offs between "job guarantee" and UBI (i.e. job not required) guarantee?
