"I think one reason some #tech ppl are unwilling to grapple with DOGE’s failure is that it'd req acknowledging that their entire belief system about govt & in some ways broader worldview -🚨WAS WRONG.

It turned out that you couldn’t ‘fix’ govt by sending some good engineers to look under the hood. Our spending isn’t driven by ‘waste’ & fraud that you can detect with better tools."

Interesting, and thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, do you have the source for that graph?

I don’t believe their stated beliefs are real, it seems entirely clear that the real goals of DOGE were to entrench power and cut off the bootstraps others might use to build their own power; their propaganda worked, why would they change the messaging now?

These are people, I'm convinced, who have a primal and fundamental need to reduce everything to numbers. But you can't put a number, not exactly, on physical health. You can't tie a budget to helping with folks who need accommodations for neurodivergence. You can't explain in flat digits exactly how important it is for citizens to be getting their mail on time, let alone at all. You can't treat it, in other words, like a business, because the return isn't measured in dollars!

I don't know if it just enrages a certain type of person that the world is a bit more complex than they thought, or if there were a few of them that really did think they were doing good by taking a pipe wrench to the backbone of the nation, but either way, for every dollar taken out of these programs, it feels like at least $10 is lost overall. So much for 'waste'.

And Canada's doing the same, with Carney in charge...
