One of the two Minnesota legislators who was shot by a man pretending to be a policeman, Representative Melissa Hortman, was killed in the targeted shootings that have taken place there, as was her husband. The other legislator, Senator John Hoffman was shot multiple times as was his wife, and has had surgery. Both legislators were Democrats, and Governor Walz states that these shootings were "politically motivated."

"I will tell you that when we did a search of the vehicle [of the shooter impersonating a police officer] there was a manifesto that identified many lawmakers and other officials."
