Die aktuelle Vogelsituation / … The updated bird situation – Stella, oh, Stella

Ich habe keine neuen Vogelbilder, sie bewegen sich einfach zu schnell (die Vögel, nicht die Bilder), und in den meisten Situationen sind sie weg, wenn ich die Kamera geholt habe. Daher habe ich mich jetzt dazu entschlossen, die Erlebnisse lieber voll life zu erleben, auch wenn sie dann nicht “im Kasten” sind.

… I don’t have any new bird photos, they just move too fast (the birds, not the photos), and in most cases they are gone when I have fetched th camera. Therefore, I have decided to just enjoy life what is happening, even if I don’t get anything „in the box“.

Gegen Ende der letzten Fütterungssaison kamen auch Meisen zu uns. Jetzt besuchten sie uns gleich von Anfang an. Wir haben ein Blaumeisen- und ein Kohlmeisenpaar. Sie kommen allerdings zu anderen Zeiten als die Spatzen”horden”, die sich ziemlich ungebremst aufführen. (Sie schubsen sich und andere vom Futter weg, ziehen an den Schwanzfedern, hacken auf den Bürzel und ähnliches.) Ich bin aber froh, dass wir die Spatzen haben, besonders die vielerorts vom Aussterben bedrohten Hausspatzen. Beide Gruppen können durchaus zusammen fressen, ohne das mehr ”Schlägereien” aufkeimen als sonst. Die Amseln sind sehr zurückhaltend, ganz anders als die im letzten Dorf. Finken irgendwelcher Art haben wir immer noch nicht gesehen, aber dafür einen Kleiber, der an den Stützen des neuen Futterhauses auf und ab lief. Das hat mich etwas erstaunt.

… At the end of last feeding season, even tits visited us. This time around they were there from the beginning. We have a pair of blue tits and one of great tits. The don’t come together with the sparrow „hords“ though who behave quite unrestrained. (They push each other away from the food, tear each other’s tail feathers, hack each other’s rumps etc.) But I am glad we have the sparrows, especially the house sparrows, which are threatened by extinction in many places. Both groups can feed together without there being more fights than usually. The blackbirds are very guarded, different from those at the old place. We still don’t see finches of any kind, but there was a nuthatch that ran up and down the supports of the new feeding house. That surprised me somewhat.

Nach einem Angriff von einem Sperber, sind die Vögel vorsichtiger und fressen hauptsächlich dort, wo sie sich schnell verstecken können. Ich musste daher eine Futterstelle verlegen. Wir sassen beim Kaffee mit Besuch, als ich den Sperber sah, der versuchte einen der Spatzen zu greifen. Er hing dann quer an der Hecke und griff hinein, bekam aber keinen zu fassen. Zum Glück ist die Hecke sehr dicht.

… After a sparrow hawk attack, the birds have become more cautious and feed mainly in spots where they are close to hiding places. I had to move one of the small feeders because of that. We were sitting with visitors drinking coffee, when I saw the hawk that tried to grab one of the sparrows. Then it hang on the side of the hedge and tried to grab one from its hiding place, but it didn’t catch any. Luckily, the hedge is very tight.

Aber ich hatte auch ein ganz bezauberndes Erlebnis mit einer Blaumeise. Das Foto oben zeigt die Stelle wo es stattfand. Ich stand an der Tür zur Terrasse und schaute auf den Garten. Die Meise kam angeflogen und liess sich inks auf der Dachkante nieder, dann flog sie zur Regenrinne auf der rechten Seite, etwas tiefer, dann auf die eingetrocknete Canna rechts, und dann … dann flog sie hoch und flatterte auf der Stelle in der Höhe meines Gesichts, wie ein Kolibri. Es war als ob sie sehen wollte, was ich für eine war. Ich rührte mich nicht, stand nur da mit offenem Mund.

But I also had an enchanting esperience with a blue tit. The photo above shows where it took place. I was standing at the door to the terrace and looked out to the garden. The tit came flying and landed on the edge of the roof to the left; then it moved to the drain on the right, a bit lower, then to the dried up canna on the right and then … then it flew up and fluttered on the spot like a colibri right in front of my face. It was as if it wanted to assess me. I didn’t move; I just stood there, mouth open.

Wir haben jetzt das Futter in einer grossen Plastikkiste im Schuppen stehen; wir haben einfach zuwenig Platz. Aber das ist kein Problem, denn man kann die Kiste verschliessen, so dass Ratten oder ähnliches sie nicht öffnen können.

… We store the bird food in a big plastic container in the shed; we simply don’t have enough room in the house. But it is not a problem, we can close the container so that rats and similar cannot open it.

Von den grossen Vögeln essen eine Elster und ein paar grosse Ringeltauben bei uns.

… As far as big birds are concerned, we get visits from one magpie and some big wood pigeons.
