Good.

Via Kyle Griffin:

Schumer wants a risk assessment to examine whether foreign countries might have tried to access the Epstein files and possibly use the information therein as leverage over Trump.

New in Playbook: Leader Schumer today will take to the Senate floor to call on the FBI to undertake a counterintelligence threat assessment of Trump-Epstein connections.

Well fuck me running !!!
in reply to Laffy

@tomcapuder It's not worthless at all.

Would you rather he do nothing? Not shine another spotlight? Not do whatever he can to keep this story going, stir things up, try something/anything he can?

in reply to Laffy

I mean...yeah, good. But the usual completely weaksauce approach from Schumer. I mean, do we honestly believe Kash Patel's FBI is going to do an honest job of this counterintelligence operation?

He appointed a 25-year-old with no law enforcement or security experience to be head of the FBI counterintelligence division. Then stripped hundreds of their agents away to put them on migrant-kidnapping duty.

I think he was doing better with the strongly-worded letters.

@tomcapuder What would you have him do?

@Danetteb Please tell that to the Debbie Downers in replies.

That is why I post less often here.

Don't cater to the cheap seats . The moaners will always be there online but many never actually VOTE but complain endlessly.

I know. I read them. It’s “why aren’t Dems doing anything” and then they do something and the response is “this isn’t enough” 🫤

Teri Kanefield did too. It's a common theme. People are angry that the GOP gets away with stuff, so they want everyone opposing them to use the same tactics, but that's not how we save democracy or rule of law. In fact, using authoritarian practices tears down democracy and rule of law no matter who's doing it.

This is the same thing as all the Garland bashing with respect to the very complex cases against Trump. The naysayers wanted immediate action though the justice system doesn't work that way. What's provable in the court of public opinion isn't necessarily provable in court, and you need airtight cases to win in court. Also, the courts aren't going to fix the political problems we face. People tend to forget that.

Yes it's frustrating, but this is not something that will be fixed quickly. It requires us all to do our part. That includes our congress critters - and they are, and so must we.

Thank you for all you're doing despite the frustrations.

@tomcapuder What should we all do, just say "Oh, well, the felon will get away with another one." The GOP constantly complained about Dems when in power. If we harp on all they do wrong then people will see how much they are doing wrong. If we do nothing then people will say well at least they aren't like the Dems. Sheesh. @GottaLaff

@tomcapuder Yeah, that won't happen, so try coming up with something realistic.

I'm not a fan of his at all, but when he does the right thing, I give him some credit.

Now please take your Debbie Downer replies elsewhere.

@tomcapuder Just bringing this up hints to T's base that might be some Deep
Staters in there that need to be uncovered.

@tomcapuder

National security is one of the few issues that would gain bipartisanship.

Framing the Epstein Files as a national security risk might gain traction, even on Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.

The GOP didn't care about Trump's Russia connections until it ran into the deep "Anti-Communism Anti-Russia" core of Republican & Independent voters.

Schumer is using one of the few commonalities between the two sides.

@tomcapuder

At least he pointed to the problem, made it so the public is aware.
Not sure what more anyone in Congress can do when Republicans hold the majority.

I am hearing a lot of grumbling about Schumer and the "old guard" maybe the best option is to demand the party chose younger leaders.

We have a similar problem in Canada. Folk are upset with Conservative premiers but that is who the majority elected. The only way to prevent them from returning to office is motivate folk to get out and vote for change, educate folk, make them realize there are options.

@tomcapuder Nah I'm with Laffy and others on this one, this is far less useless than most of what he's been doing.

Schumer horrifically fucked up his leverage point in the spring badly and at this moment all any minority leader can do is posture and try to make noise. This is a decent effort at that.

@tomcapuder

wow . That was A really LOW BLOW you aimed at Laffy. !!

One of the most wilfully hurtful and hateful attacks I have seen on fediverse.

You have a right to express your anger at politicians, and to disagree with folk on fediverse, but that was uncalled for and entirely unacceptable.

Shameful!!

Blocking that account!

@GottaLaff @emptywheel

in reply to SnowyCA

@SnowyCA Thank you so much for that. I blocked him even though he blocked me. That way if he ever unblocks, he's blocked, lol
in reply to Laffy

His final words were unacceptable --he made it as hurtful as possible,.
in reply to Laffy

You didn't attack him so his response was not cool.

I think we have a situation of "I'm angry and feeling helpless with my life and the political situation in this country and I am going online to direct my rage at the first target"

Time for an accountectomy.

Laffy reshared this.

in reply to SnowyCA

@SnowyCA That was quite the conversation to read through. Does he have a completely black and white concept of politicians and/or people? Like if somebody isn't perfect, then absolutely everything they do is bad, and it's a problem to be appreciative of any little thing that they do??

It almost seems like he is taking it as a personal attack that you said one small positive thing about a person he has labelled BAD. Which makes so little sense.

in reply to Kate McDonald

@musiciankate Yep, that's how it sounded.

And when I replied to SNOW, not him, and shared Marcy's thread about why we should be going after the GOP, not Schumer, he insulted me and blocked.

in reply to Nicole Parsons

@Npars01 @tomcapuder I would submit that the very existence of billionaires is a national security threat. Epstein was in business not to serve the doorman at his building. He wanted to be with the people our corporatist media-infotainment complex seems to fawn over. Same people who would easily rationalize throwing average and poor people under the bus while for themselves taking their privilege to rape children. The same people who would sell out their democracy for a buck!
in reply to Laffy

emptywheel is always on point with this stuff too. And yes, taking a stand and putting the GOP on record every time is doing something very worthwhile. And when it comes to every subsequent election, we bring up these voting records to show what the reps stand for. It's not an empty gesture in any way. It's the power that the minority party has and must use when facing a corrupt and evasive majority party.

@SnowyCA Double Block for the Win! 😃 Not sure if they deleted everything or if what (reply chains are mysterious in the Fediverse) so I can’t say I saw what this was about, but I did read the various posts and he’s definitely had some trauma associated with religion. Never feel bad about blocking people. Blocking is self care in the online world, it keeps us sane.
in reply to Chuck

@ChuckMcManis Oh really? (the trauma) Thanks for the info.

I never feel bad about blocking. I only do it when someone has crossed a line.

@SnowyCA

what information might they contain that could be used against our wonderful, moral, Christian president? He never even knew the guy!
