Now that I understand how these things are built, fixed a pair of pajama pants I have been wearing forever, but I had gotten annoyed at, because they would fall off if not tied at the waist. (Old elastic!). Threaded some new elastic into a preexisting channel in the pants. Not perfect (the elastic is ever so slightly wider than the channel), but sure beats either having to remove a tangled knot anytime you would want to take off the pants (ie having to take a wee at 2am), or the shorts falling off. Trying to untangle a knot at 2am when you really have to pee, in tbe dark, when you are more asleep than awake... not a good time. #sewing #mending

That's what I've used in the past. But now that I know there is such a thing as a bodkin, ah, I can still get it done with a safety pin, which works ok.

@knowattitude I have my eye out, I am sure I will run across one at some point at a garage or estate sale.

My first exposure to the word came in high school English class,
where we were reading something by Bill Shakespeare -
"Who'd bear the scorns and flattery of the world,
Scorned by the right rich, the rich cursed of the poor?
The widow being oppressed, the orphan wrong'd,
The taste of hunger, or a tyrants reign,
And thousand more calamities besides,
To grunt and sweat under this weary life,
When that he may his full Quietus make,
With a bare bodkin, who would these fardels bare", etc
