I've actually thought about this one. Let's say the goal is to get people to move from corporate social media to the Fediverse. Awesome. I would agree; I think that's a great goal to have. How are we supposed to spread the word without using the same platforms these people are already using? I'm not trying to be inflammatory here; I'm actually asking. I saw it with the (admittedly, very brief) TikTok ban. In the days leading up to the ban, people who were already on TikTok found out about the Fediverse, and posted on TikTok about it. I would've been that guy if I'd already had a TikTok account, and I did not. Looking back on it now, I feel like I should've made an account over there myself just to help get the word out, and I didn't do that either.
@christian_freiherr_von_wolff That's different than trying to make your revolution happen there. It's opportunistic and with an understanding that you're seizing specific opportunities where there's a gap in their defenses, with no pretense that sustained activity there won't be met with bans or algorithmic shadowbans.
@christian_freiherr_von_wolff I think the warning that the revolution won't take place on their platforms is not a call for a boycott on principle but a call to avoid compromising yourself spending all your time trying to be heard and make a difference on a platform operated with the intent to prevent that.
@dalias This. I remember well when I shut my Instagram account years ago because I noticed that I was shadow-banned for using the hashtags biodiversity and climate crisis. You can have thousands of followers but shout into the void. My alternative was a newsletter, so it's me keeping the contact addresses and contacting people directly. @christian_freiherr_von_wolff @Em0nM4stodon

I would go further and say that the revolution will not happen online, and any mention of it will be scrubbed by AI.
Every good anarchist should read David Graeber's "Lost People: Magic and the Legacy of Slavery in Madagascar", where he describes the functioning anarchist culture on the island, and the shadow government that pretends that they rule, but actually don't.
If you want to see a DRAMATIC revolution, watch a movie.
I would go even further and say that the revolution will not happen as long as there are vanguards around trying to suppress it for their own political gains
