All without having to prove sites are harmful for children.

They don’t just cover social media, but all 'Internet services’ – blogs, websites, online games and more.

All adults would have to do a digital ID check to establish their age with third-parties so they can access any service.

If you don't, you could face blocks or time restricted curfews.

These powers could be used by any government in the UK to restrict access to almost any online service you could imagine.

This is no longer about banning under-16s from social media.

It’s about control over all information and forcing adults to go through digital ID checks to access the Internet.

Forcing us to submit our identity or biometric data to an array of different providers poses significant privacy risks.

@anomalocarididae and now the state of California has decided to start down this road with their requirements of operating systems to have an age attestation mechanism touching every conceivable piece of software.

Imagine this, I need to search the Apt repository for dumb-app, but I need to verify my age! So, curl, ls, less, more, wc plus thousands of little binaries in a Unix like system.

Governor Newsom is trash.

So I can email my MP yet again on this particular topic and if they even bother to reply it will be saying they are 100% in favour of MORE control of the Internet, as they have before and as did their predecessor, both Labour Party, for all it matters. They toe the party line and are not moved by what their constituents say (with exceptions, I guess).

this kind of stuff happened in [you guess which country] 20 years ago. Initially for games. no pushback. even largely welcomed. Expanded to social media and chat apps around 10 years ago. Some complaints, no pushback. Now you get police knocking at your door if you post or just chat certain things online. still basically no pushback. People just accept it. The amount of people willing to just take whatever shit is saddening.
