@Wulfy—Speaker to the machines @Lesley Carhart it is called in marketing terms "The invisible hand" Even in Crypto markets this term is well known. They call it The invisible hand of the market. In earlier terms it was Schwalbe? With his invisible hand of God. It's Adam Smith
@n_dimension Sort of. There are ways to value companies and their share price, but the likes of Palantir or Tesla are mostly traded on hype (read: lies). They are the Simpsons Monorail of companies.
Its pe ratio is 208! That's insane. Now let's do Tesla; pe ratio 328. (For those not familiar, right now pe in the 20s is typical. pe means price to earnings)
Us: They collect data, ALL the data. They try to watch everything. They are building a Panopticon that has zero respect for privacy. Their CEO has stated that privacy no longer matters.
@nuintari I found that telling people "They've literally named themselves after the seeing stones of Evil in the Lord of the Rings. Their long-term goal is to be the Eye of Sauron." tends to strike a chord. Even non-fans have probably seen the movies and understand the reference.
They literally named their company after a mythical device that was used to corrupt the mind and motivations of the leader of the most divine entities in the mortal world. It's like they realized "Torment Nexus" and "Guinea Worm" were already taken, so they went with their third choice.
I'm pleasantly surprised the market has turned on them at all! One of the "fun" traits of the stock market is that if you show up with an openly evil but effective business plan, investors will open their wallets and say "that sounds like a stock that's going up!"
