@selfhosted
My workstation is also my homelab, also I have a nas that host all backups. My backup plan is some like this. Any time the kernel is updated it launch a script that make a full backup of the system, encrypt and send it to varios partitions / disks and to the nas by ssh. I use btrfs so I use btrfs-send to a file to make the backups, for the encrypt part, I use aescrypt but I looking for an alternative. Also I make a system clone once a week with clonezilla

Airlines Are Selling Your Data to ICE

A massive aviation industry clearinghouse that processes data for twelve billion passenger flights per year is selling that information to the Trump administration amid the White House’s new immigration crackdown, according to documents reviewed by the Lever.

The data — including “full flight itineraries, passenger name records, and financial details, which are otherwise difficult or impossible to obtain” for past and future flights — is fed into a secretive government intelligence operation called the Travel Intelligence Program and provided to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies, records reveal.

Details of this program were outlined in procurement documents released Wednesday by ICE, which is a division of the Department of Homeland Security.

'Civilized People Do Not Starve Children to Death': Sanders Rips US-Backed Israel's 68-Day Gaza Aid Blockade | Common Dreams

Jessica Corbett
May 08, 2025

""Today marks 68 days and counting since ANY humanitarian aid was allowed into Gaza. For more than nine weeks, Israel has blocked all supplies: no food, no water, no medicine, and no fuel."

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) not only highlighted those conditions in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday but also called out the fact that the worsening humanitarian crisis "gets very little discussion here in the nation's capital or in the halls of Congress," even though Israel has spent the past 19 months destroying Gaza with armed and diplomatic support from the United States."

Which X11 software keeps you from switching to Wayland?

For me AutoKey is absolutely essential to my workflow. I have tons of text expansions and shortcuts to "remap" keys. E.g., respectively, typing dAt expands into 2025-05-08, 13:47:40 CEST, and pressing alt + k simulates the arrow down key.

Secondly there's XScreenSaver which has so many wonderful (mathematical) visualizations that it would be a damn shame if these eventually get lost as Wayland gets more adoption.

None of these have Wayland alternatives as far as I know. For text expansion there's Espanso, but it doesn't support keyboard shortcuts yet.

Nvidia drivers, prime offload with Wayland is still a no go.

New Mexico to allow cyclists to roll through stop signs

Starting on July 1, people riding bicycles in New Mexico will be able to ride through stop signs without coming to a full stop, and stop at red traffic lights and continue even if the light hasn’t turned green — as long as it’s safe to do so.

That’s according to a new state law Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed on Friday.

Senate Bill 73 changes New Mexico’s traffic law to allow cyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs, and to treat red traffic lights as stop signs and proceed if there are no other cars, cyclists or pedestrians.

Millennium Force valleys today

Millennium Force didn't complete it's circuit today and someone actually captured the webcam recording it happening.

I finished that night stand

It's a little scratch and dent given it's made out of offcuts, scraps and extras from other projects but I think it came out okay. Three coats of fake "tung oil" finish and it came up to a nice warm semi-gloss, and ambered up the pine enough to take the edge off the grain.

Detail shot of the side hung, center guided drawer and its rabbeted dovetail front and shop made handle.

Yeah I'm going on a bit of a victory lap here, I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Case studies

Identify 3-5 common use cases for your niche, and ask them to walk you through how AI "did it."

If they can't, then their AI clearly isn't up to the job if it can't actually do the basics.

If they provide something, shoot it full of holes .

Donald Trump says America should "forget about" the separation of church and state

Trump said that instead of a separation of church and state, he will bring "religion back to our country."

Donald Trump signed an executive order yesterday establishing a “religious liberty commission” at the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate and present strategies to eliminate “threats to domestic religious liberty.”

During his comments on the order, Trump said that he doesn’t know if there’s a separation of church and state and that we should “forget about that for one time.”

It's Thursday 05/01/2025. Hey, What's Going On!

"Why can't you be normal!?" Oh, I see you chose option 3. Extremely Personal Info Dump.

This is a daily post for “casual” conversation. If you want to post or talk about something non autism related this is where to do it. For example if you want to info dump about your special interest but it doesn’t fall into “autism related” then you can post it here in the comments. All other rules are still active, be respectful to each other.

It's election day again, so I get to be suspicious of everyone around me who are trying to get me killed.
