Thai curry with tofu, beans, tomato and naan

Made this tonight, tasted wonderful. There's more tomato hiding out under the naan.

Spicy tofu strips, stir fried. Sugar snap beans and tomato added, also fried. Coconut milk and yellow curry paste added, mixed and left to simmer. Naan bread heated in the oven.

Easy, quick, cheap and full of flavor

Chicken pasta.

Chicken pasta. Home grown tomatoes and basil. The garlic knots were free.

Cost per person, $2

Let me try on another fedi service like gotosocial. In theory, it should have the same issue if the same fetch is used? I think?

  • Mastodon: social.rootaccess.org/deck/@Fe…
Yep its able to communicate with the post.
  • GoToSocial: Yep personal server can get there, although its hard to find the curl/url that its using because of the client/server relationship. And I dont know enough about go 😀

Maybe I should create a codeberg ticket? And/or find time to bring down the project finally and make a PR(MR?) or something.

GoToSocial is compatible with secure mode, it uses it by default. Is Piefed compatible?

Trump admin appeals order to pay SNAP benefits in full

Because of course they did. Much cheaper to just cut off food assistance than build concentration camps for 42 million people.

The Trump administration asked an appeals court to block a judge's ruling that the federal government must pay November SNAP benefits in full by the end of the day.

Why it matters: While millions of households across the country face hunger, the Trump administration is again arguing it does not have to cover the safety net food benefits in full during the government shutdown despite multiple federal courts ordering them to do so.

Roughly 42 million Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help cover the cost of groceries and other necessities, like baby formula.

Driving the news: "This unprecedented injunction makes a mockery of the separation of powers. Courts hold neither the power to appropriate nor the power to spend," the administration's attorneys argued in the filing.

A mockery of the separation of powers may as well be Trump's slogan. Maybe he'll put that in gold leaf on his ballroom.

Supreme court considering taking up case challenging legality of same-sex marriage

As foretold ...

The US supreme court on Friday is considering taking up a case that could challenge the legality of same-sex marriage across the country.

Hours after ruling that Donald Trump’s administration can block transgender and non-binary people from selecting passport sex markers that align with their gender identity, the justices are holding their first conference on the Davis v Ermold case. While their deliberations are typically kept private, the court may announce whether it will take the case as early as Monday.

The case involves Kim Davis, a former Kentucky county clerk who, in 2015, became a cause celebre for religious opposition to same-sex marriage after the US supreme court legalized the practice in the Obergefell v Hodges case. Davis repeatedly refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples and, at the height of her fame, was even briefly jailed for contempt of court.

Crazy to think this shitshow has now been going on for a full decade.

Passengers start to feel bite of flight cuts amid US government shutdown

A US government order to make drastic cuts in commercial air traffic amid the government shutdown has taken effect, with major airports across the country experiencing a significant reduction in schedules and leaving travellers scrambling to adjust their plans.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has said the move is necessary to maintain air traffic control safety during a federal government shutdown, now the longest recorded and with no sign of a resolution, in which air traffic controllers have gone without pay.

While airlines have started to reduce domestic flights, global hubs such as JFK in New York and LAX in Los Angeles will be affected, meaning delays and sudden changes that could have a cascading effect on international air traffic.

I had a flight with an 8 hour delay 1 week ago so thats that 😵‍💫

Maybe the people that don't care about anything that doesn't directly affect them will start paying attention.

Official Discussion - Avengers: Secret Wars [SPOILERS]

in reply to TheImpressiveX

I don't disagree with this. Comics do this all the time and it's not like comic readers are necessarily smarter than movie-goers.

The other option would be to have no Matt Reeves Batman (I don't think it'd fit in the DCU) or no DCU Batman. Both would be a shame imo.

in reply to TheImpressiveX

I'm sure marvel wasn't worried about flooding the market either. And then people got bored of so many super hero movies.

I'm also sure this time it will work out. /s

Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show

Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, documents seen by Reuters show. And the social media giant internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day. Among its responses to suspected rogue marketers: charging them a premium for ads – and issuing reports on ’Scammiest Scammers.’

Pizza the Hut. Look, I had to.

Anyway my question is who's going to Pizza Hut? I'm either getting the cheap two topping medium pizza from Domino's online sale, or if I want a real good pizza, picking one up from a local chain. Was there something specifically good about Pizza Hut?

in reply to TehPers

who's going to Pizza Hut?

Considering their revenue last year was 7.5 billion, I'd say quite a few are. Just because you or the people you know don't do something doesn't mean others don't or that it's unpopular.

Chicken tacos

The tomato and bell pepper came from the garden.

The nopales were an experiment from foraged cactus. Definitely going to try a different recipe for that because the one I used left a lot of gel okra like gel making plating a little harder than it should be. Once I find the right recipe cactus will be a practically free food source

Instead of buying chicken thighs I bought a whole roaster and butchered it myself. This dramatically cuts the cost of chicken as long as you are going to use the whole thing. In this case I just used the thighs but I have uses for the rest including all the "waste" parts going to make a stock at some point.

Cost per person: $3.42
About a dollar of that was just cheese

Re: Minutes from 6 November 2025 WG Meeting

For what it's worth, Ted and Dmitri convinced me that we need to move toward a strict inheritance of the root object's context. It means a little more work upfront but will make it easier down the line.

This post is where we continue that discussion, asynchronously, so stay tuned!

in reply to julian

> strict inheritance of the root object's context

only if the "root" (of the reply tree, i assume) has the same context you want to participate in. there are plenty of situations where you *don't* necessarily want to do this. replies can cross contextual boundaries, so you need to account for this.

DC ‘sandwich guy' found not guilty of assault after throwing sub at federal agent

This trial sounds like a real grinder.

A D.C. man who threw a sandwich at a federal agent in what he called an act of protest this summer was found not guilty of a federal assault charge.

Jurors found Sean Dunn not guilty of one misdemeanor assault charge on Thursday in federal court in D.C.

Dunn told News4 he’s glad the trial is over.

“I’m relieved and looking forward to moving on with my life,” he said.

Dunn hugged his lawyers after the foreperson read the verdict. The jury — which had sandwiches for lunch on Thursday, according to a person familiar with jury lunches — deliberated the charges for several hours on Wednesday and Thursday.

Dunn’s act caught on video turned him into a symbol of resistance to President Donald Trump’s law enforcement surge in the District.

Foreign Food Safety Inspections Hit Historic Low After Trump Cuts

The food crisis is here

Millions of Americans are in crisis and struggling with uncertainty after the Trump administration halted crucial food benefits on Saturday — and it's not clear when those SNAP payments will resume or how much money families will receive.

Why it matters: Rising food costs were already hurting coming into 2025, but a raft of policy actions from the Trump administration have worsened the situation.

State of play: Low-income families are scrambling to figure out how to pay for food, and facing some painful choices in the coming days: deciding whether they can pay rent or other bills or skipping meals so their children can eat.

Some will have to choose between going to work or standing in line at the local food bank, where need has been growing all year.

in reply to Powderhorn

I draw 2 conclusions about the administration from these actions:
- they want a civil war or at least a reason to invoke the insurrection act
- the cruelty was always the point
in reply to ɔiƚoxɘup

Yeah it does seem weird doesn't it? Like cutting off food is the way to get people to riot
in reply to ɔiƚoxɘup

I don’t think he wants a civil war, I think he’s not particularly worried about it, and is confident in his own brinksmanship. I definitely think people in his clique want it, but, I think he’s quite happy with the current situation.

I also think he’s confident in his ability to turn the outrage against the democrats. To use the cruelty to spark outrage and then direct that outrage at the opposition.

I also think he’s surrounded him self with people who will only tell him what he wants to hear, and that, if this gambit fails, he won’t understand that until republican’s in congress start breaking ranks.

in reply to ɔiƚoxɘup

I think he is in enough of a bubble that he thinks that

1) his base won't blame him, they'll blame democrats (he's partially right)
2) there's no actual path from 'food insecurity' -> 'Trump removed'

The elections may very well have changed that perception, however, because he actually tweeted out that he was considering funding SNAP a day or 2 after the elections.

in reply to t3rmit3

I agree but that still hasn't happened yet. Whatever his "reasoning" might be, (not reasoning, and probably not his. Lol) SNAP has not yet resumed and I'm very skeptical that it will any time soon.
